Hello , I did receive an email alert from WCG , and found I have the msg above for a long time on systray icon .
I was unable to send the requested diag info , plus the Event Log via Firefox 15.0 (the Submit script hangs) , even turning all filters off. This is part of what I prepared , TIA for helping me to get back again : =================================== World Community Grid - Verified Project and Member Name - No Tasks There is a task waiting to upload. Project status is "Scheduler request pending , requested by user". Systray icon shows "Network suspended - user request". On Menu tab "Network activity always available" is marked . I did try to reset it , restart BOINC , reboot the computer (obviously) , request "Update" , etc Under "Space Sciences Lab" there are two tasks active : boinc.exe and boincmgr.exe . PC's basic software is supposed to be up to date. Below is the event log (edited / shorten) , as requested ; if it may help , it seems I did suspend network activity while benchmarks were running : 26/08/2012 11:58:40 | | Starting BOINC client version 7.0.28 for windows_intelx86 26/08/2012 11:58:40 | | log flags: file_xfer, sched_ops, task 26/08/2012 11:58:40 | | Libraries: libcurl/7.25.0 OpenSSL/1.0.1 zlib/1.2.6 26/08/2012 11:58:40 | | Running as a daemon 26/08/2012 11:58:40 | | Data directory: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Dados de aplicativos\BOINC 26/08/2012 11:58:40 | | Running under account boinc_master 26/08/2012 11:58:40 | | Processor: 1 AuthenticAMD AMD Athlon(TM) XP 2600+ [Family 6 Model 10 Stepping 0] 26/08/2012 11:58:40 | | Processor: 512.00 KB cache 26/08/2012 11:58:40 | | Processor features: fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 mmx fxsr sse syscall 3dnowext 3dnow 26/08/2012 11:58:40 | | OS: Microsoft Windows XP: Professional x86 Edition, Service Pack 3, (05.01.2600.00) 26/08/2012 11:58:40 | | Memory: 2.50 GB physical, 2.98 GB virtual 26/08/2012 11:58:40 | | Disk: 37.25 GB total, 16.02 GB free 26/08/2012 11:58:40 | | Local time is UTC -3 hours 26/08/2012 11:58:40 | | No usable GPUs found 26/08/2012 11:58:40 | | Config: don't compute while X , Y , Z , etc is running (edited) 26/08/2012 11:58:40 | World Community Grid | URL http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/; Computer ID NNNNNNN; resource share 100 26/08/2012 11:58:40 | World Community Grid | General prefs: from World Community Grid (last modified 22-Dec-2008 10:57:27) 26/08/2012 11:58:40 | World Community Grid | Computer location: home 26/08/2012 11:58:40 | | General prefs: using separate prefs for home 26/08/2012 11:58:40 | | Reading preferences override file 26/08/2012 11:58:40 | | Preferences: 26/08/2012 11:58:40 | | max memory usage when active: 1023.81MB 26/08/2012 11:58:40 | | max memory usage when idle: 1023.81MB 26/08/2012 11:58:40 | | max disk usage: 1.00GB 26/08/2012 11:58:40 | | don't use GPU while active 26/08/2012 11:58:40 | | suspend work if non-BOINC CPU load exceeds 50 % 26/08/2012 11:58:40 | | (to change preferences, visit the web site of an attached project, or select Preferences in the Manager) 26/08/2012 11:58:40 | | Not using a proxy 26/08/2012 11:58:46 | | Running CPU benchmarks 26/08/2012 11:58:46 | | Suspending computation - CPU benchmarks in progress 26/08/2012 11:58:46 | | Suspending network activity - user request 26/08/2012 11:59:18 | | FP benchmark ran only 0.078125 sec; ignoring 26/08/2012 12:02:01 | | Suspending computation - CPU is busy 26/08/2012 12:02:32 | | Resuming computation and so it goes until now 04/09/2012 19:20:57 | | Suspending computation - CPU is busy 04/09/2012 19:21:17 | | Resuming computation |

Hello JRF999,
----------------------------------------I am still using WCG BOINC 6.10.58. In your case, I would go to the Transfers Tab in the Advanced View of BOINC Manager and select 'Retry Now'. If that did not work, I would choose 'Abort Transfer'. Lawrence Added: I assume the Projects Tab shows that World Community Grid is running. One thing you should check: I don't know where it is in v7, but in earlier versions it's located in Advanced -> Preferences -> network usage (tab). There you can find several options, some of them may be wrong, for example, the "Network usage allowed" section.

26/08/2012 11:58:40 | | Config: don't compute while X , Y , Z , etc is running (edited) ... 26/08/2012 11:58:40 | | suspend work if non-BOINC CPU load exceeds 50 % ... 26/08/2012 12:02:01 | | Suspending computation - CPU is busy 26/08/2012 12:02:32 | | Resuming computation and so it goes until now 04/09/2012 19:20:57 | | Suspending computation - CPU is busy 04/09/2012 19:21:17 | | Resuming computation Also, it seems that there's something running on that computer other than BOINC, it could be "X, Y, Z, etc.", or something else that uses 50% or more of the CPU, thus "suspending computation" as requested. If the latter is the case, you can change this value for a smaller one in Advanced -> Preferences -> processor usage (tab) -> "While processor usage is less than XX percent"; where XX is 50 in your case (in my case I use 0 which means no restriction). Use Windows Task Manager to see what's going on. |

JRF999,
When computing is suspended for whatever reason such as for benchmarking, or when the system is loaded greater than 50% [as is shown in the log], the network function of BOINC is also suspended. Don't know why 7.0.28 says it's on request of user. Just tested with 7.0.31 and there's no network line, just: 4070 5-9-2012 9:57:52 Suspending computation - CPU benchmarks in progress 4085 5-9-2012 9:58:24 Resuming computation Normally, the activity menu allows to set network on schedule [based on preferences], or "Network always available", but some of the operational suspensions continue. You don't want networking e.g. during benchmarking and when computation is suspended per the preferences. For starters to get out of this, would alternate the menu options from Always available to Network Suspended and then flip back. Oh yes, is there a program called boinctray.exe running? It's essential for BOINC to detect user activity on mouse/keyboard. Also, I'd try benchmarking again from the advanced menu as it seems to have failed due to a "too busy" system. [something heavy is running outside BOINC, so look as admin in the Task Manager for any suspicious process] Maybe the successful benchmark flicks the flag back that stops networking. bono_vox, the CPU load percent works in reverse. The smaller the number, the sooner BOINC suspends. Mine on Windows is set to 75% and on Linux to 35% [else tasks crash/time-out]. |
