@#%^@#% (choose you favorite expletive!)!
----------------------------------------BTW, while I'm here, how much longer are volunteers going to have to wait on the people that are getting paid to do this work to give us the ability to merge devices??? ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by David_L6 at Aug 8, 2012 11:57:49 PM] |

Probably until there's basically nothing of any higher priority than to bring in this functionality.
----------------------------------------I'm sure that if the techs wanted to publicly state all that's on their "wish list", we'd all be amazed at the length of it. Basically, it's all a question of resources - there's only a handful of techs attempting to keep this whole grid up and running. Yes, IBM may be a massive company (well, not as big as it once was - I can vouch for that, as I, along with many others have been "released" over the last few years), but as with all companies, everything has a price/budget, and therefore, priorities have to be set and kept to. If you feel so strongly about this, why are you still here? Yes, of course we'd miss the power your machines bring to the grid, but if you feel as though this issue is the "number 1 priority" and it isn't being met, then why stick around?. ![]() |

@David L6,
----------------------------------------sorry, but I don't see any reason for being so rude. To merge or not to merge is not a vital question. The reliability of the WCG-platform is more crucial and the incidents we experienced some days ago show that reliability is never obvious and sure. Enjoy, Yves --- how much longer are volunteers going to have to wait on the people that are getting paid to do this work By the way, I don't like this kind of disrespectful remark against the technical staff who is working hard with limited resources providing a high quality service. |

Ok, I'll ask - why do you want to merge devices? Can you describe the scenario that you are thinking of and explain why it is important?
Whenever a client (server reinstall, upgrade, crash) goes to the great server room in the sky I just reinstall it and start crunching again ASAP. It crunches data, reports it and the projects go on. Any particular reason the new device needs to be merged with the prior device? |

Let me state upfront that I have great respect and admiration for the paid staff and appreciate their efforts. That having been said, I would also like the ability to merge devices. every time I have to reload he OS, for whatever reason, even if I name the computer the same exact name, it starts anew as a new host. I agree it is not a big deal, just a nice to have.
----------------------------------------Juat vainty I know, but I've got one 3 year old I7 950 rig that would rate very high in the "host" charts is all it's entinys could be merged. But, please don't slow down the work on getting GPUs going. B2I B2I ![]() |

The OP has been b******g about this for the last 5 years. Same complaint combined with various threats. Anyways, asked and answered. No reason to respond to this. Think of it as spam.
