Power scheme setting

Can I keep my power schemes setting? ( hard drive shuts off when computer is idle). Also, my old machine only has a 6gig hd (half full)
would that be a problem. Last question, how do I know if the grid agent program is connecting to the web? (My grid agent program indicates "Primary task executing")
Thanks, joe

Re: Power scheme setting

1.) The Power Scheme shouldn't be a problem. The WCG agent periodically writes to the hard drive as its working, so it will wake up the HD temporarily.

2.) A 6 GB HD is no problem. Running the older UD Agent on the Cancer Research Project for about two years, the most space I've ever seen used has been about 40 MB.

3.) "Primary Task is Executing" means its already downloaded data and is now crunching and doing work. It should take anywhere between 24 and 48 hours of CPU crunching before it sends the completed work unit and downloads a new one.

Re: Power scheme setting

For deskside computers which are line connected all the time it seems advisable to set the "hibernate" and "stand by" settings of Windows to never. In my case the client ran right up to the point that my deskside system went into "hibernate" then resumed when I returned to the office in the morning. Of course this was not what I had intended. Hopefully, now it will run all the time I am gone. For portable computers running from a battery the situation is different. I would expect only to change the Power scheme settings for "A/C power" not when on battery.
