One billion Results

CONGRATULATIONS on WCG reaching 1 billion results.

Why not see if WCG can reach 2 billion results in less time than it took to reach the first billion mark?

May I suggest a membership/device promotion drive toward the 2 billion results milestone. I have worked in several post secondary institutions in my I.T. career and I have found that they tend to run their I.T. equipment 24/7. Their computers also tend to have multicore CPUs which would ideal for off peak number crunching.

If we are doing this number crunching on various researcher's projects, perhaps they can also add their devices to the device pool?

Re: One billion Results

I would say because unless everyone goes back to outdated equipment, this goal will easily be obtained.

GOOD!

I only have two devices on my network but I devote the CPU time to one project in the WCG project. To boldly go where WCG has never gone before. Does this sound like Star Trek?

If WCG also added more badge levels more people would come back and get those too. Now more people means more load on the WCG Servers in general and they seem to be happy the way it is. Oh and sounding a little like Star Trek is okay with me!!

Re: One billion Results

To be honest, adding more badge levels isn't really going to help. Yes there are quite a few badge hunters, but that is a small subset of those who quit WCG.

I agree with Coleslaw, we should be able to get 2 million results in less time because WCG currently have more members and its members have better machines, some with additional processors than we did 5 years ago. That should be good enough.

Re: One billion Results

It's a favorite topic of a few [get 28 hits with search term "badge AND level", for just one poster in this thread, whom I shall not name explicitly ;>]

Certificates is still on the planner with bells and whistles, but it's a inter-national [IBM] secret when that will be. Neither are though a reason to put resources elsewhere for me [not interested but for occasional trialing/testing]... In 2 months time all that can be blue will be blue, just by keeping me octo laptop running (doing CFSW 25% faster than my aging Q6600 slurping 170W/h)... and after, it will continue, at 70W/h at wallsocket, which ever WCG project tickles me fancy as times they are a changin.

P.S. The 2 billion bet thread is there, http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,33383 , so in keeping them in one place, wander over there for a sophisticated stab.

That unnamed person COULD be me but I am not looking it up to see...

My point I too have many other projects outside of WCG that I crunch for, mostly for milestones now, but crunching also for those that intrigue me. I have OVER 1 Billion overall Boinc credits, not enough to but a cup of coffee yet though! 8-))) But what I am saying is IF WCG made more badges I for one would come back and crunch until I got them too. As you can see by my 'blueness' on the left I have all I can get and am working on those I don't have but are only trickling work. ALL of my pc's also have gpu's in them and the Beta testing seems to also be on hold right now for them, so they too are elsewhere. I am NOT complaining, it is not MY project to run, I am just saying it would help some, UNLESS it overloaded the Servers. That HAS happened to other projects, they make a change lots of people come and the Servers break down due to the increased workload! As I said before IBM is happy as it is or they would change the priority and make the change now.
