I suppose bubbles have interfered with my explanation of what my problem is. I think that I understand quite well what you're saying (I am not a native English speaker either), but I don't see how this is a real issue rather than an inconvenience right now...Language is a two way street - you may not understand me, because I may not have been able to convey what I intended to convey, but I think I understand that you don't understand me. Even if your laptop takes a whole week to crunch a single WU (even the slowest machine I am using might takes a day the most), that would leave you with at least another 3 days to upload and return the result. And if you can't upload/report when you switch your Internet connection right away, well, try again in (half) an hour and it is likely to succeed. And you can try that over the course of a couple of days, at least. Inconvenient, yes; a problem, no. You are right, TPCBF, I have no problem. I have an inconvenience I did not have before,
and I have frustrations that I did not have before. My inconvenience is that I have to shut down programs on my PC in order to establish Internet connection on my laptop with my USB modem. I don't want my USB modem to sit there for a long time, and when the server cannot ship and receive I don't get anywhere. When it works, the procedure takes 5 minutes max. I agree, it's not a problem, and I said so. I feel it frustrating, and I have shut down two out of my three cores until the inconvenience is over. |

Crunchers looking for a badge in CFSW, HFCC, or HCMD2 may perceive this as a problem.
----------------------------------------WUs in those projects are getting scarce and some crunchers might have difficulty getting the run time needed. The server/network problems just make it more difficult for them. The best thing to do is increase your queue size a few days and set your network access to an out-of-hours period. Then use every ounce of patience you can muster. Instead of watching your results it might be a good time to read a book.
Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some battle.

If there is no load, then the problem doesn't occur While a reference to the obvious usually need not be explicitly stated, technical clarity and rigor requires it. However, it's all ok ![]() . But...Beyond that, the system runs great until suddenly it doesn't. That includes when we 'recover' from a 30-60 minute flareup of this issue and load is 2-3 times normal steady state load. If this was reliably triggered by load, then we should continually see it during recovery. However, we don't. Now that clears up the picture of the (work)loading situation real good .We are currently exploring whether there are some unusual issues related to directory locking during file creates/appends/deletes and delays exchanging tokens between nodes. Unfortunately (fortunately?) we also have tracing enabled on the file system and it is slowing everything down worse than it has been Interesting to see how the (work)loading response-curve would shape up versus the parameters involved over a graph plot of time in the diagnostics analysis. but hopefully it will give us the data to find the root cause and fix it.; |

Crunchers looking for a badge in CFSW, HFCC, or HCMD2 may perceive this as a problem. WUs in those projects are getting scarce and some crunchers might have difficulty getting the run time needed. Is this true? I ask because I'm getting several "Message from server: No tasks are available for the applications you have selected." and "Message from server: Tasks are committed to other platforms" on hosts that have only CFSW selected (well, also C4CW and DDDT2, but those are out of jobs at the moment). If true, is it related to the "Server Errors" discussed here or is a project shortage? |

I am only on CFSW and have not seen any messages about shortages of work....
