Yes, you need those 5 valids first, so if going about it efficiently [in MM mode], run 5, switch to something else that is either quorum 2 anyhow or established ZR for your devices, then come back to continue when the first 5 have scored for this version 6.12. Not going to try it... running mix.
IIRC, think the techs were looking for an *inheriting* of status for a science, meaning, if a device previously was established for a science app, let that pass to a new version, but going from quorum 2 to ZR may not be one of those that qualify to do this... more along the line of a bug fix or speed up type of version change. --//-- |

First, congratulations to Uplinger & the other techs for achieving ZR for the VINA projects. I've downloaded 10 GFAM WUs since uplinger's announcement of Zero Redundancy Change for the VINA application! in the Member News section, but all are still quorum of 2. I noticed that my copy of the GFAM program has been automatically updated to the ZR version 612. Then I re-read uplinger's announcement. There are several steps of checking the new version before WUs will be sent out as ZR. "These steps will take a few days to complete." I was unaware of the current requirement for a device to complete and validate 5 WUs of a particular WCG ZR project before being allowed to run ZR on that project. IIRC, FAAH was the project to which ZR was first introduced. At that time, the requirement to run ZR was that the device must have completed & validated 20 WUs in ANY combination of WCG projects. I seem to have missed the announcement of the change. Is the newer requirement of 5 valid WUs in the particular project a replacement for the earlier criterion, or is it in addition to it? (I thought my observations and the details of the requirements to run ZR might be of help and interest to other members - RJB) |

Rickjb, the change in requirements, came in when they did that major upgrade of the coding within their systems. I can't just remember the exact date (although it'll be in the archives - Member News), but it was a month or two back...

Yes, it used to be 15 or 20 before allowed to do it alone and now it's 5, which was with the implementation of server 700, March 6, when ZR was temporarily switched off altogether as the servers were building new statistical information per active device [vaguely, it was nearly 14 days]. Follow the exchange with pramo above how to short-track that, as for as long as 5 have NOT validated[ for a new science app version, you'll get them in twos, meaning if you cache up fast, as I did shortly after S700 came along, you end up doing many tens in quorum 2 before 5 have validated and the distribution to the device switches to ZR. Learn and weep, or as the saying goes in a certain country, a donkey never walks into the same rock twice ;D
------------------------------------------//-- P.S. Those danged and passionately avoided FAQ's were updated, IIRC. If not, it rarely gets mentioned they're not up to speed. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jun 7, 2012 11:23:09 AM] |

Indeed, which is why I run 0 cache and a project mix (bumping those only for announced outages and the odd, rare hoovering) I have so many lumps on my head that the country, looking at me, wouldn'know whether to laugh or cry! ![]() |

Thinking about the ZR share at WCG, with the VINA conversions, we're now 8 out of 12 active researches running Zero Redundant on qualifying devices (Remember, last 5 serial valid for a science to get these assigned). when considering, that quorum 15 for HPF2 is really 15 unique results, slightly different from each other but close enough to allow credit computation and cross-validation , it's 3/4th of all projects at WCG. Pretty cool.
