Hi Guys,
I have a couple of Linux (CentOS 64Bit 8GB DDR) servers, and whilst they will sit in there nice Air Conditioned Datacentre and work all day long, if i could keep boinc running. I have tryed launching boinc when the server starts, it dies as sooon as it completed the current work unit. Ive tryed executing it as a cron job, again it completes one unit and dies. Thing is these servers can contribute 4 to 8 days of runtime per day (I aint in it for the points nither is my team) but i cant make the application run. On a few occasions, boinc has run for 4 or 5 days, usually because ./boinccmd --project http://www.worldcomunitygrid.org/ update gets stuck in a loop and forces boinc to stay running, but this is not a permenant solution. Suggestions?? |

If you can tell what command you are using to start the boinc this would be helpful. On my systems I use a separate account for all the boinc stuff (named boinc) and my start procedere looks like this:
----------------------------------------- an entry in the boinc users crontab with: @reboot /home/boinc/start.sh - and the corresponding start script: #!/bin/bash sleep 5 cd /home/boinc exec ./BOINC/boinc -daemon & This way there is no need to run start scripts as root and the boinc process runs within his own account and it runs since years without any problem. For Centos or Scientific Linux I have always used these instructions to install boinc as a service with no problems.
----------------------------------------edit: Ha, have just seen another thread on here that says berkley has been offline for two days... so no direct link. but if you google/yahoo for the link you can find a cached copy of the instructions. good luck. ![]() ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by sunfolk at May 31, 2012 10:37:17 AM] |
