hey, is it possible to get GPU units for CEP?
my gpu runs much faster than my cpu so it seems silly to leave it idle. Thanks Sean |

Put it on a different project if you wish. BUT KNOW WHAT YOU"RE DOING, GPUs are a completely different "ball game"

hey, is it possible to get GPU units for CEP? my gpu runs much faster than my cpu so it seems silly to leave it idle. Thanks Sean Hi, Digging on official word with search term `GPU` and author `cleanenergy´ produces this result: http://ww.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/s...=0&sort=1&rows=20 My reading is: At first cleanenery did not, then they were having time to look into this further. Certainly, with the present RAM to Disk IO problems if running more than 1 concurrent, this could not get any better squeezing it into GPU and having to do large volume data exchange piping to storage (at least that's the picture I'm drawing in my mind). --//-- |

Put it on a different project if you wish. BUT KNOW WHAT YOU"RE DOING, GPUs are a completely different "ball game" I second that, with feeling. An emotional response that arises from all too recent memories of running my CPUs flat-out on CEP2 and - annoyed at the idle GPUs - deciding to run a different BOINC project upon them simultaneously. While my cobblestones soared dramatically (at something like a 20:1 ratio), so did the number of times wherein I discovered that the extra I/O was sufficient to knock RAID sets apart. As a result, I lost time on the WCG projects I really care about due to being forced to reload operating systems etc. In consequence, I discarded vanity as a driver for what I have my systems do. (And it was purely vanity; it's not like you can trade cobblestones in on a new motherboard or something.) [Edit 2 times, last edit by Former Member at May 14, 2012 6:57:37 PM] |

Knock RAID sets apart?!? Ouch.
Kinda why I'm preferring SSD at the moment, don't know how much it helps, but my personal data is kept on external encrypted drives (HDD) just in case. |

Half my systems use striped SSDs for the O/S with RAID 10 for BOINC data, the other half use separately mirrored O/S and BOINC data.
----------------------------------------I use SSDs on the higher horsepower CPUs (980x, 2600K). [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at May 14, 2012 7:09:19 PM] |

Wow. That's amazing. Very surprised that CEP coupled with GPU tasks can knock a SSD RAID down.
