I need to change the computer name of one of my cruching machines, and my username on it.
----------------------------------------BOINC is currently running on that machine. I assume I need to: 1. have BOINC finish all the WUs it has downloaded 2. detach BOINC from its projects 3. uninstall BOINC 4. perform the name changes 5. reboot 6. reinstall BOINC 7. attach to projects Is that correct? I figure BOINC will get hopelessly confused if I change the names without going through all of that. ![]() |

Probably the easiest way to do it. Less hassle.
----------------------------------------Selling it or crunching under a different family member? BTW, how is the other half doing?
Crunching for humanity since 2007!

1. The device name change is transparent. The servers will understand that device 123456 which was known as OldComp is to be known as NewComp. On first connect after device boot the name change is communicated and shown on the Result Status pages for all assigned tasks and previous statistics.
2. If you change the your user ID on the computer this has no effect either, not changing your name at WCG also. It's the 123456 numerical device ID assigned to your host that drives the identification. --//-- |

Selling it or crunching under a different family member? BTW, how is the other half doing? I decided to let someone else help me out by replacing the failed hard drive in this machine. He went overboard and also installed the new OS for me, giving me a ridiculous machine name in the process! My husband is doing great! He's 6 weeks out from the bypass surgery now and is starting to feel pretty much normal. I think he actually has more energy now than he did during the months before the surgery! He still has to be careful about lifting things because his sternum isn't fully healed yet, but that's his only activity limitation. Thanks for asking! We are feeling very, very fortunate. ![]() |
