Excessively long Completion Times??

I have recently been finding that the downloads are being given excessively long time to completion (anything from 40 to 250 hrs) - the effect being that (1) WU's are being run High Priority (when they don't need to be); (2) they are running out of date sequence - this being determined by the overly long period and the WU type etc - and I don't seem to have a way of controlling/over-riding this or getting the whole lot back to it's 'normal' setting.

Has anyone else encountered this recently?

If so, what did you do to correct the problem??

That's not normal. You have to check if there's something else running in that computer that's using all the CPUs.

Also check the messages in your BOINC client. You can post them here if you like.

BTW, what projects are you running and what is the size of your work buffer?

Re: Excessively long Completion Times??

This has happened to a lot of people, including me. JmBoullier said that he got an HCMD2 unit estimated to take 4 minutes but it took 5 and 1/2 hours. Afterward, all his estimates were way off.

What to do - put up with it. After about a week, my estimates have dropped from 50x to 20x.

Re: Excessively long Completion Times??

Thanks Guys! Yes, I know it's not normal - hence msg!! The WU's themselves are completing in the usual times for my O/c'd i7 and watching the estimates reducing by 30secs every 5secs of clock time is quite amusing. I'm not really concerned about the strange timing but it can be a bit disconcerting when an HCC that will complete in 1.75 hrs starts off with a prediction of 40hrs and a CEP2 is predicted at 160 hrs+!!

I'll see if it cures itself - from Lawrence's comments, it sounds as though it will!!

Yes, you have probably been hit by a "nasty" HCMD2 work unit.
Read this thread Short Workunits Issues till its end, it is not very long.

After reading the last post of the above thread, decide by yourself if you do anything or if you let things settle down by themselves.
Nothing essential is broken though.

Edit:
PS: When it happened to me estimated times were 91 times more than normal. smile
It took more than two days of one-hour HCCs to recover!
