I'm running Windows 7 and right now there are two CEP2 tasks running on my machine, however there are 10 processes for it in task manager. There are 8 named wcgrid_cep2_qchem_6.40_windows_intelx86 and 2 named wcgrid_cep2_6.40_windows_intelx86. Only 2/8 and 1/2 are using any CPU time, however all together they are using about 750MB or RAM, which I believe is much more than normal. Does anybody know why this would be happening or how to fix it (unless this is normal and I just didn't notice before)

Hello Yarensc,
You should have 1 qchem thread running per CEP2 work unit and 1 'wrapper' thread at 0% usage per work unit while the qchem thread is running. Something has gone wonky on your machine. I would choose to reboot if it were my computer, even though I would wince at the time lost. Once you know something has gone wrong in the system memory, who knows what errors are being propagated behind the computer case? Lawrence |

Thanks, I've now noticed the problem is with more than just BOINC so I'm going to have to do a full windows recovery. But at least that means there's nothing wrong with any of this wonderful software.

In Windows you see 2-3 processes per task, a control and *one* worker taking CPU time and maybe the graphics taking a little if run. In Linux you see 1 more entry for CEP2 doing 'top -u boinc' in a terminal view i.e. 3 or 4 for CEP2. With DSFL/GFAM/SN2S (VINA engine based), you will see 'just' 2, a control and a worker process. (OT, there's more scheduled to be ported to VINA in the future. Doing top on a 16-32 core requires big screens to see it all)
