I just checked one of my systems and all of the WUs say they are downloading. I went to Transfers to see what was happening and I highlighted the top WU to enable me to do a Retry. Nothing was transferred. I then went halfway down the list and highlighted a WU and did a Retry. All but the first two WUs transferred successfully (or so I thought). I then went back to Tasks to review the status of the WUs and they all still say they are downloading.
----------------------------------------The next thing I did was to reboot the system. After BOINC was started, I checked the list of tasks and they were still all downloading. I went back to Transfers and highlighted the second WU being downloaded and this completed successfully. The first WU was still waiting for the download so I did a Retry and, this time, it completed successfully. In going back to the list of tasks, I find that now they are Running or Ready to start. I don't know if anyone has had this problem, but I wanted to describe it so you would know what I had to do to get things running again. Could this have been a problem with the level of BOINC (6.10.56 I believe)? [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Mar 27, 2012 1:55:54 AM] |

I've seen this when my computer is in the process of downloading work and, for whatever reason, I lose connectivity or that project's servers go down. When you click on Retry, switch to Messages (if you still have that in your level of BOINC) and see if you see anything about not being able to connect to that project's servers. If rebooting fixed it, it sounds like your machine lost connectivity. On fairly rare occasions, I have to reboot my DSL modem even though my connection is up. It's like they changed something and I have to reboot that to connect okay. Sometimes, there can be brief server outages at projects (eg, it reboots for whatever reason so it takes a few minutes to do that) or it could be network issues on the project end. Generally, if you see messages about not being able to connect to the project servers but can get to other internet sites, then it's probably a problem at the project. If you can't get to other sites, it's your machine or your internet connection.

The reason they all still showed downloading is the file that was not completing was a required file for that science or batch. Until that download finished, none of the tasks had all the files needed to run, hence "downloading".

On one machine here, I'm getting a lot of WUs stuck in "downloading" - the Messages tab shows "[file_xfer]: Temporarily failed download of [xyz]: http error"
----------------------------------------Access to reference site is succeeding, so "project servers may be temporarily down". All other machines still working fine. This the same problem? [EDIT: This one machine has been having the same problem for a couple of days now, and is soon going to run out of work. None of my other machines have a problem. Yet, this machine appears to be able to access the Internet normally in all other ways]. I have the same problem here since few days :
----------------------------------------" Temporarily failed download of sn2s.target_AAW88541.pdbqt : HTTP error Internet acces OK - project servers may be temporaily down. " Because of that, I can't crunch on this project. Aparently, it works with a " AAW_88540 " WU because I got one but not with the 541 :/ I cancelled the data transfer few times with no improvment. I tried to restart my Internet box, it doesn't solve the problem. I downgraded Boinc to the 6.10.58 version from the Berkeley's website because both 6.12 version from the website and the Ubuntu's source didn't worked fine. Is anyone who succesfuly crunched a 88541 WU ? ( PS. sorry for the mistakes or misundertandings, English isn't my native language. Moreover, maybe I had to post this in a new thread, my apologies ) Edit : Same issue with the AAW88543.pdbqt [Edit 2 times, last edit by Former Member at Mar 27, 2012 12:10:44 PM] |

I have the same issue with 88541 and others have reported similar errors with this and other projects.
----------------------------------------See also "One of my PC's won't download new work?" in "Website Support". On one PC I aborted transfer, updated and then it downloaded and processed OK but another done at the same time is still stuck. These are both Linux PCs, in different locations but same ISP. Paul.

If it's a -200 error, then it's a poorly mounted work unit. They start and crash. Not being able to fully download a file as some are incurring, is not the same [IMO]. At any rate, note is on the blackboard for techs to look in.

Have had same "stuck downloading" prb on 3machines, 2 of which ran out of work a day or so ago. Clicked "RETRY" several times (one as long as 12hrs later), switched studies (DF/SN/GF) with no correction. AIDS and Proteome failed on one machine, too. Rebooted all machines concerned with no result.
ALL 3 machines are Dotsch-Ubuntu O/S-2 flash drives and one hard drive. On reboot of one machine this morning (10hrs downloading-aborted) i got a GF unit to "stick"... other two machines have run out. ALL XP machines work fine on all 3 studies. My finger is pointing at a Linux prb with (perhaps) just one batch having a problem because all has been well for weeks with all machines on all (DF/SN/GF) work units. First @minamoto: Welcome to the forum!! There is nothing to be sorry about as your English is great.
----------------------------------------This must be a LINUX version problem. I have been running ~250 of these per day for the last 3+ days on Win7/intel and have no download errors, wu's that stop processing or even comp errors. They are also running with Milkyway GPU's. Just thought I'd report this. |

This must be a LINUX version problem. For what it's worth, that seems to be the case here - I've got many Linux systems, and a Windows and Mac. I'm only seeing the problem on Linux. BOINC 6.10.58 and 6.10.21. (previously known as 'proxima' on SETI, UD, distributed folding, FaD, and Rosetta) |
