Hello everybody. There is sometime I´ve been contributing to the WCG, but few months ago I´ve noticed that the Clean Energy project tasks never complete. They always restart after some time. Could you help? thanks.

Configure Boinc Manager to,
Leave Applications In Memory. Suspend rather than shut down. Use CPU when system is in use. |

Minucci,
That was a rather cryptic reply, but what it boils down to is, if CEP2 is for instance on the 3rd job of 16 in a task, it needs quite a few hours before it will save progress again at end of that segment. It wont do a save periodically as that would mean 1Gigabyte and more of a model in progress being written to disk which would be noticeable to the user. Hybernating the system instead of power down with the "Leave Application in Memory when suspended", LAIM for short, keeps the model in memory when BOINC is told to pause and also when the system is hibernated [which uses no power]. When powering up, the task will continue exactly where it was paused. This is one of the reasons why CEP2 is an opt-in project. It's really aimed at machines that are on more hours a day, so it can manage to get passed the heavy/long running sections in a task [there are 2 or 3]. --//-- |

Hi Minucci,
skgiven and SekeRob basically said it all. If you want to learn more about optimized settings for CEP2 check out our Tips and Tricks sheet linked in the footer of this post. Best wishes Your Harvard CEP team |

Thank you all. I will check those options, try them at night and post the results tomorrow.

Thought I had replied earlier, but I must have hit just the preview button. Thank you all. It has nearly completed the task since I avoided shutting down the system. Instead I just suspended it. It has not restarted from zero anymore. Cheers!
