Other grid projects working as expected, only HPF2 exhibiting problem

With substantial certainty, you are running one of the WCG incompatible alpha test clients 7.0.12 through 7.0.17... that's why! If you need to run an alpha test client, fetch the latest 7.0.20. This one is able to download the gzb/gz files of WCG correctly, for you that is.

Thanks both. I'll disable HPF2 on Debian for the time being and bring up the latest codebase on the weekend.
