Recruit new Members ~ ~ Kim Kommando Newsletter took the suggestion!

I took a chance and suggested that the computer talk show host Kim Kommando put information about joining WorldCommunityGrid.org in her newsletter. A few weeks later her Download of the Day Newsletter included a story about it on February 22, 2012. We should look for other opportunities to publicize the crunching effort to cure disease and find other solutions. I hope this leads to a lot more people joining and crunching.

Kim Kommando article

This is what came out in the newsletter.

That was a very good initiative and one to inspire us all.

The reason your picture didn't show is that the tags [ img ] were in upper case [ IMG ]
- photobucket does that; I don't know why, but they have to be changed into lower case letters.

It was driving me crazy. I couldn't figure out why my image would not work.
Thanks

I hope a lot of computer geeks join. I just can't fathom why more don't.

Me too. Amazing the number of times I've told someone about this - this incredible project where you can actually HELP CURE CANCER and other diseases just by installing a bit of software - and people go "oh, right", and never think about it again.

Sometimes I think it's just me who finds it exciting - then I come to the forums / stats and remember that there are actually quite a lot of us! But I do wonder how some people (most people) can fail to be interested in helping.

Maybe she doesn't know about Linux--but that is how i first learned about WCG--she mentioned it in 2004 smile

When did WCG first had its Linux-based WU? Was it as early as 2004? I guess Linux was not as popular then (year 2004) as Linux is now (year 2012) -- and so these may help explain the omission of Linux at that time (year 2004). But if the time of publication of the Kim Kommando newsletter was on February 22, 2012 and referencing current material at WCG's download page, I can't see how Linux may have been omitted quite by accident; more so if Linux was omitted on purpose. confused

I dont think Linux was left or right out on purpose.Ubuntu 4.10 (Warty Warthog)

Ubuntu 4.10 (Warty Warthog), released on 20 October 2004, was Canonical's first release of Ubuntu, building upon Debian, with plans for a new release every six months and eighteen months of support thereafter.[2] Ubuntu 4.10's support ended on 30 April 2006.[9] Ubuntu 4.10 was the first version of Ubuntu to offer ShipIt services, allowing users to order free install CDs.[10]--this is the first flavor i tried and they did send me five free CDs.We didnt know about Boinc at that time at least not me--it was UD client then--Later in 2002 with help from UD, NTT Data launched a similar Internet-based Cell Computing project targeting Japanese users.[4][5] In 2004, IBM and United Devices worked together to start the World Community Grid project as another demonstration of Internet-based grid computing.[6]--If you ever listened to the Komando show she only does windoze and she is very good at it smile
