System Recovery.

I am sorry, I put a post of this nature in the Member support section. I thought that I was in fact this section. Age is creeping up on me.

Owing to the fact that my Grandson had heard that a system called IMesh could assist him with his MP3 player, he downloaded it when I was not around, and we have found that it has got a nasty virus on it, which, I have been advised will take a complete system recovery to get rid of.

When I have a nice clean system up and running again, I obviously want to continue my crunching duties, and do not wish to lose anything ie points position.

How do I download and install the agent to ensure that I resume where I left off please.

Re: System Recovery.

Hi, I had the same problem too, except mine was about the boot screen, and not a virus (I tweaked the boot screen a bit too much and it wouldn't boot at all... lol). You can find the thread I was talking about this in the past here . It's a simple concept if you have backed up. Just redownload the WCG installer, and backup the entire WCG directory in the Program Files directory after you have stopped WCG. Then do the System Recovery, and reinstall WCG from the install program. Now you have two options. The easy but not as effective is to just continue the installation like usual, but click the already a member checkbox, then your username, and you will continue from there. (not recommended). The other not so easy method (which takes some skill) is to right after you just installed WCG, DONT start up WCG. Instead, restore your backed up WCG directory to the current directory, overwriting everything.(recommended) That should (literally) put you back to where you were when you last quit the WCG, percentage, device id, username and all. I've done it before, and some others too, but sometimes you lose the work unit, because it is tricky. Not really a problem since you just download another wu anyways! I hope this helps. Good luck. wink

Re: System Recovery.

Thank you for your help. It looks as though it will have to be your not recommended option, as it seems that my lovely virus has knoched out my CDre-writer capability, and with these new PCs these days, you do not get a floppy disc drive.

Re: System Recovery.

Just to say that everything went well, and I am crunching again.
