Communicating with boinc client. Please wait...

Yesterday I had a virus on my PC. Nasty little thing it was, but I managed to kill it.

My PC wasn't back to how it was, so I used the System Restore & turned it back a week. Everything was good again.

Except WCG. Long story short, I uninstalled it. Downloaded a fresh version & installed it. Now all I get is what is shown on the picture. It stays like that for hours. Tried uninstalling & reinstalling - no luck, still got this issue.

Re: Communicating with boinc client. Please wait...

Hi,

Sorry for your plight. Right bottom is another key indicator... "Connecting to localhost". :Possibly boinc.exe, to core client service, is not running which you can check in Task Manager [Ctrl-Shft-Esc] key combo. Then with admin rights look in processes or services.

Let us know.

Managed to sort this issue out. Just!

I uninstalled it again. Then deleted the BOINC folder in Program Files and Program Data.

Reinstalled and it's working again.

There must have been something remaining in the folders that was causing this problem.

Happy cruncher again! :)

Re: Communicating with boinc client. Please wait... [RESOLVED]

Good, glad you're running again, though we'll never know if it was an issue of permissions [BOINC Manager not able to pass security to connect to the core client, or the service not running]. The AV could have marked the program for quarantine at the time of the virus infection, itself being infected, unlikely though since BOINC runs in a sandbox when installed with protected application execution aka PAE].

Crunch On
