hi erevyone
I'm running BOINC on a DELL Dimension E520. For some reason that I can't explain, only one of the two cores is actually running computations. How can that be fixed ? thanks in advance Hubert |

What client version are you running? Guessing you're at least on a release above 6.2.28, in local prefs, anything showing below 100% of processors will be rounded down to the next whole core, so 99% will still work as 50%. Alternately for 6.2.28, on the website profile, you've specified 1 core and not 2.

thanks.
At the second I moved to "use at most : 100% of the processor", a second task just started. But my motherboard fan just starded spinning high speed too ! That was the reason I decreased the value. I just came with a not-so-bad balance : 100% of the processor, but only 60% of the processor time. by the way, I'using version 6.10.58. regards Hubert |

Yes, that will work. 60% of time is in practice with BOINC as running 3 seconds, pausing 2 seconds. You might want to try 75%, running 3 seconds, pausing 1. Given your device has a hard time keeping cool [or rather annoying the eardrums], you also might want to have a look at TThrottle for BOINC. Then you can set BOINC to 100% and let this tool slow BOINC down. It works by reading the CPU temp, then when getting too warm, allow less cycles. It's smoother and when it's cool in the room, your machine will do more work, and when it's hot, do less, all automatic.
