I have an old Apple mac which has been processing tasks but hasn't contributed anything yet (5 days)
Looking at the active tasks, there is one high priority task which will struggle to hit the deadline. 15 hrs remain and it is due in tomorrow 1pm. I usually power it off at night. Is there anything I can do? |

Firstly, welcome to WCG
----------------------------------------A couple of things: 1) In Advanced, Preferences, network usage, reduce your Additional work buffer to less than 1. (My old P4 has a cache of only 0.5 days) 2) leave the mac on all night to catchup. 3) I assume you have set wgc to work all the time and not only when the computer is idle. Additional work buffer was 0.3 - I have changed it to 0.1
Under processor usage Computing allowed "when computer is in use". I have increased the processor % slightly. |

Also, (and this may not be what you are looking for), there are projects that have smaller work units (WU), like Help Conquer Cancer (HCC) and Computing for Clean Water (C4CW) that you can try. They probably average between 1.5 - 3 hours per WU. Other projects like Drug Search for Leishmaniasis (DSFL) and Human Proteome Folding - Phase 2 (HPF2) have bigger WUs... 8-15 hours.
----------------------------------------Happy crunching. CJSL ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by cjslman at Jan 6, 2012 1:52:48 PM] |

Until you clear the back log you may want to turn the CPU usage up to 100%. It defaults to 60%.
