lost about 23 results due to errors only 3-4 were completed succesfully. no help anywhere about them

I just built a new computer with a 6 core 3.30Ghz processor and 16gb of ram. I'm a dedicated member whos commited 4+ years of run time. But this is really holding me back considering how much I could contribute with a machine like this.

Checking my results all I see is mostly errors. Only a handful have completed successfully. there are two errors i'm getting first one:

<core_client_version>6.12.33</core_client_version>
<![CDATA[

I'm running kubuntu 11.10 64 bit edition and installed BOINC through the package manager system. The main reason I went all out on the processing and RAM is specifically for these projects!

Hi nothreat33, although I'm not running the same platform as yourself (I've just got the 1 Windows based box), I did a search on the forum and found several hits using this url. After scanning down a few, one caught my eye - namely [Resolved] FreeBSD Support

Hopefully, either that or any of the other results from that search will be able to help you out. If not, then I'm sure someone will be along in the not too distant future (considering the time of year etc.)., to help you further.

Both of those stderr.txt files list the same error:

process exited with code 193 (0xc1, -63)

See the Boinc FAQ for more info on that error:

You need to install the 32bit compatibility packages.

sudo apt-get install ia32-libs libstdc++6 freeglut3

hth

sudo apt-get install ia32-libs libstdc++6 freeglut3

hth

That one gives a different error message and he wouldn't be able to download any work units at all. If he's getting work, and it sounds like he is, then it's not the libraries.

Two possibilities:

1) Use the 6.10.58 version of Boinc. It is the most stable for WCG.

2) Use W7 (It is here that the linux aficionados will kill me and burn my body to ashes) biggrin

With only a few hours till New Year 2012 as I type, I'm sure the linux aficionados will leave you alone for now. By 2012, the GPU will save the day... and besides, the solar system would lose their darkMatter assimilated from some nearby supernova -- without the darkEnergy from a Hypernova biggrin

Re: lost about 23 results due to errors only 3-4 were completed succesfully. no help anywhere about them

Hi,
I did not experience any similar trouble operating Ubuntu (10.04 x64) together with Boinc 6.10.17.
I suppose that something went wrong during the installation.
During my first boinc installation on Ubuntu, I experienced some troubles with the automatic restart of Boinc after reboot by using the package provided by WCG. Instead of, I installed boinc from the standard depot (using synaptic) and I did never experience any problem again after reboot. Probably I was the cause of the problem, missing to do something right with the installation package provided by WCG.
Cheers,
Yves

Maybe it is a faulty DIMM. I'd try the machine with 8GB (half your memory) for a week and then switch to the other 8GB for another week.

The error I'm getting is 193 which said it was either bad memory or boinc wasn't able to read/write to a certain area. I tested my ram for 9 hours and it was all good. And as far as the permissions, I'm running just your everyday kubuntu installation and installed boinc generically from the package manager no weird installation with os or boinc.

Can't figure out what the deal is.
