Any thoughts on Nvidia 301.42 WHQL ? Anyone using it? It works fine for me on a GT 240 for Folding (using CUDA). I have seen other good reports on it, with no problems yet, but I don't know about OpenCL.![]() |

Thanks Jim. I put it on a GTX285 on MW and likewise it seems to be crunching fine. I have not looked at any video yet.

Well, this one seems to crunch and work on vid's too. Perhaps after some notable recent failures they got one working,
---------------------------------------- I'm not a gamer so didn't test that. Any reports on how it may work on the 6** series? Not like I'm going to spend 1 1/2 large on bleeding edge but I'm am interesting to see if Nvidia's gaming push will leave crunching behind. Just interested. ![]() ![]() |

I'm am interesting to see if Nvidia's gaming push will leave crunching behind. Just interested. Looks that way to me. From what I've read the 6xx cards will do well with CUDA but poorly with OpenCl apps. Seems they have also crippled the FP64 capabilities because they want to push their Tesla and Quattro cards for that segment of the market. People like you, who want to crunch with them are a very small percentage of users when compared to gamers.![]() .

All.depends on the project. As nanoprobe stated, bad FP64, bad with OpenCl. But GPUgrid it is 30% faster than 580. also faster over at Einstein.

On the drivers front, for the *nixers that have a higher end NVidia card, there's newly ported drivers out from the OEM in 32 and 64 bits, Linux & FreeBSD: http://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/linux-display-ia32-295.53-driver-uk.html http://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/linux-display-amd64-295.53-driver-uk.html http://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/freebsd-x86-295.53-driver-uk.html http://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/freebsd-x64-295.53-driver-uk.html 295.59 is just out. Same links as previous post, just change the 3 to a 9. My system was still on 280.13, so added the relevant ppa to get update offerings automatically: http://www.noobslab.com/2011/09/nvidia-drivers-for-ubuntu-1110-oneiric.html (their repository is as of yet on 295.53, but it's a leap forward) --//-- |

Techpower's GPU-Z was recently updated to version 0.62. http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/2137/TechPowerUp_GPU-Z_v0.6.2.html
Letting this loose on the laptop with I7 + ATI Radeon 6490, the tool suggests the integrated GPU of Intel is much more performant than the Radeon, 21.3GB/s bandwidth versus 0.2GB and clock of 667Mhz, v 100 Mhz. Whilst the quest to get OpenCL able drivers continues... every arm and leg of software and support resource twisted and tools installed, but that OpenCL box remains unticked... but we have PhysX and DirectCompute 5.0 too. Why CPU-Z claims the ATI has 1764MB memory and GPU-Z claims it's 1024MB [so the hardware doc suggests]... a mystery. Intel shows DirectX 10.1 capability and the ATI 11.0. No GPU crunching on this for now [it's the only device on] :( |

This will interest the ..buntu 12.10 upgraders with certain ATI Radeon cards: http://www.unixmen.com/ubuntu-12-10-and-amd-catalyst-problem-solved/
(No, this is not a problem discussion thread, merely about update news ;>) |

There's a new version of GPU-Z out. The summary changes will have some get into fetch mode as it now handles the latest crunching screamers:
