applause The fastest 10K Years in WCG history.

Yes, we done it again, breaking another record. It took ''just'' 26 days to add another 10K to the tally as at Dec. 14. Feels like Spaceball, the movie. Lets gear up for even faster. We can do it, yes we can!

As reading help, the first 10K took 189 days and we've been meandering in the 28-32 day range since middle of 2010... the lower the better., but now we're serious off.

Nice work, all! Let's hope Christmas brings us more hardware (and more friends!) to break this record.

Wow! I cannot even begin to figure out what the processing power for that kind of return could be...

Congrats everyone! Something tells me we can beat that high watermark... devilish cool biggrin

Re: The fastest 10K Years in WCG history.

If 20% or more people running computers equipped with "single core" CPUs or even "quad" CPUs started running computers equipped with Intel i7 CPUs or greater 24/7, it would add a good increase to crunching data......big time!!!!! And that would give WCG the ability to far exceed any crunching, in the least amount of time that they have done so far. I do have 3 computers. Two equipped with Intel i7 CPUs and one equipped with an Intel Quad and each i7 computer does do far more work than my Quad. I first started WCG with a single core AMD CPU and it was EXTREMELY slow compared to the Intel Quad CPU and super EXTREMELY slow compared to the Intel i7 CPUs. i7 CPUs do 8 jobs at a time and not one job at a time like single core CPUs do. We can easily break this record by simply using fast and very efficient computers and running them 24/7. I'm in total agreement with everyone here that we need to upgrade and get more people involved in the WCG.

Re: The fastest 10K Years in WCG history.

Awesome news. laughing Have to save a little harder to fill my empty socket (hex). Suckers aren't cheap but worth it. My other dual hex system is happily crunching away. wink

Adding a i5 K (O.C.) 8 GB ram, 60GB 6/GBs SSD right after christmas. CEP2 I feel I should mention. Curious to see how much the efficiency increases.

Re: The fastest 10K Years in WCG history.

I wouldn't run crunching on that SSD 5pot, the frequent read/writes will kill it pretty quickly. Better to run it off a secondary spinner and leave the SSD for OS and games.
HDD speed won't matter to Crunching. Processor speed and core/thread counts are what matters!

Re: The fastest 10K Years in WCG history.

Actually, with CEP2 write speed has a great deal to do with efficiency. Judging by Spot's post, I'd say that is the goal in mind.

I'm sure others will chime in with data about the reliability of SSD drives and crunching. I have a feeling they are more robust than you imply. Now, a USB stick, I'd say you have a point, but as cheap as they are, I wouldn't worry much.
