Appreciate if someone could point to a project that I could participate into where the GPU in my machine could be used. My observation is that all of current WCG projects that i subscribe to, just use the CPU. None of them seem to use the GPU on my machine. (A lenovo T420 series machine currently.)
Of course I am not sure of what is the reason. Maybe none of the 8-9 projects that are currently on are GPU friendly. Or, my machine's GPU is not supported. Or my BOINC client is misconfigured. Or GPU is getting used, and it is just that I don't seem to realise it Appreciate any pointers to resolve this. And in case you could recommend any GPU using projects, please do so. Thanks in advance Gopal |

There is an upcoming wcg that does use the gpu of certain graphics cards. Projects have to be coded to use the gpu and well it's easier to do it for cpus,

Gopal Sharma .... what GPU is in your system? I see that model has a few options. Both Intel and nVidia. I believe the nVidia option was the 4200m which would currently work (elsewhere) IIRC. If it is the Intel GPU, then you are SOL for now.
----------------------------------------The link above to Berkeley's list is outdated. AQUA and DNETC are now discontinued. Lattice has been listed as "soon" for quite some time and really shouldn't be listed yet. POEM announced they had a Linux app ready, but since has had continued problems getting it started. SETI can be buggy at times ( I personally see drivers failing quite a bit running their work and sometimes have the same problem with Einstein.) GPUGrid.net only really works out if you have a high end GPU. Even though lesser cards can finish within the deadline, they usually get aborted way before then if not finished. (Huge waste in my opinion to contribute there without a high card because of that.) The others seem to be focused on math except for Milkyway which has a limited selection of cards that work. You must have double precision for their work. Edit1: clarification Edit2: I forgot about DistrRTgen...that is another category that some don't care much for. Since their work can be used for mis-deeds, some here tend to look down on the project. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by Coleslaw at Dec 11, 2011 2:49:57 AM] |

Thanks in advance Gopal The Collatz Project, also a Boinc Project, that can use the gpu is probably one of the projects that can use almost any gpu as long as it has enough memory on it. http://boinc.thesonntags.com/collatz/ is the link for the home page of it. You can contact the Admin from there and ask him specifically if your card will work or not, he is very responsive. ![]() ![]() |

Moo! is by far the most welcoming if you are looking for low requirements or selection of usable cards.
