Crazy duration annunced...?

The running WU's are, since this afternoon, announcing some previsionnal durations absolutely crazy ; i.e between 250 hours and 1500 hours...!

Apart frome that, the computaiton seems to run normally.

What happens ? Is there a problem somewhere ? Or shall I do nothing, as long as the WU's don't actually last hundreds of hours....

Re: Crazy duration annunced...?

Leave it be.Maybe it is a bug or maybe your dcf(druation correction factor ) wrong. If in say 12 hours of running it does not go normaly then abort it.

Also you should do it in the appropraite forum unless it is widespreed, in which case you are correct in the website support .

echooff is right. Your Duration Correction Factor has gone whacko. You can check to make sure that nothing unwanted is running on your system to slow things down. If you are really concerned, you can edit your DCF.

Re: Crazy duration annunced...?

Thanks.

My computer is running normally. The WU's do not last longer than usual. It's only the estimation of computation time staying that is nuts !

By the way, how can I edit my DCF ?

Legrandpiou,

The DCF will adjust itself automatically with each completed WU, so don't worry about it too much. Well unless your network connection is not stable and you need to get more WU in your cache just in case.

There are basically two ways for the time length of a unit ot be off...one is by the programmers and they say it is not, the second is by Boinc itself being whacky. Open the Boinc Manager, down by the clock, by right clicking o nthe icon and then clicking on the Projects tab. Then click once on WCG and then in the left panel click on properties, then back in the right panel slide the slider down to the bottom and you will see the duration correction factor. Mine currently is 1.2946 which is just fine, what is yours? There ARE ways to adjust it manually but unless it is WAAAAY off it is best to let Boinc fix it itself, which it will do over the next couple of weeks. Manually fixing it requires messing with a file that if done incorrectly can force a reinstall of Boinc.

Question have you manually told Boinc to run the cpu benchmarks lately? It is supposed to do it weekly on its own but may not for various reasons. If it thinks your cpu capabilities are different from what they really are you could see the same thing. But again Boinc will fix it itself if you just leave it alone. Boinc 'learns' how long units take and will adjust the number of untis it gets based on how long previous units have taken, changing the duration you see in the process. Older versions did not have separate calcualtions for the cpu and gpu so unless you use a new version you should never run both the cpu and the gpu on the same project.
