Very solid run across 7 machines. The times are fairly consistent no complaints. Rebooted, suspended and restarted, I couldn't force any errors.

It seems as though the write to disk setting is being honored with the new version however the boinc log is showing an entry that it checkpointed everytime the code checks to see if it can checkpoint. If any users still have betas running one way to check this is to look in the running slot directory and monitor the file wcg_checkpoint.dat. The timestamp for this file should update everytime a checkpoint is done. The timestamp should not update more often than your write to disk setting.
----------------------------------------edit: This might explain the increased efficiency. We will continue to investigate why the BOINC log is showing more checkpoints than are being taken. Thanks, armstrdj [Edit 1 times, last edit by armstrdj at Nov 30, 2011 4:26:27 PM] |

armstrdj, I have just one beta still running, but it's on a slow machine and the checkpoint frequency is set to only 120 seconds. The file wcg_checkpoint.dat is certainly NOT being updated every two minutes, but that's all I can contribute.

The [Write to Disk] setting works as "not less than" interval i.e. if there is no checkpoint write point in the science app / task, it will continue until the next one encountered after the 2 minute minimum.
----------------------------------------edit: of course if it would work ;-) --//-- [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Nov 30, 2011 5:45:08 PM] |

Running 4 machines. I got a few errors and some valids on one new i7 Windows 7 64-bit machine. I am running Comodo Firewall could it be the problem? Very well could be. The firewall built into Win7 is all you should need. Comodo used to be good but now is bloatware IMHO.

I'm still surprised by how many people think that a few errors is a major problem with the BETA units. It's the nature of BETA work that there will be more errors, invalids and inconclusives than with production work. BETA work is, after all, test running the apps to look for this exact kind of behaviour. The odd error here or there (eg a couple a week) isn't significant for a production machine either, though I prefer not to get them.
----------------------------------------Personally I'd be more inclined to check the anti-virus settings on that machine and make sure it's not scanning the BOINC data folders. A firewall problem should be killing every unit stone dead rather than causing a few errors. Currently being moderated under false pretences |

This issue has been found. The checkpoints are indeed honoring the write to disk setting but it is still updating the cpu checkpoint time after each sub job finishes regardless if a checkpoint is actually taken or not. We are currently testing a fix. I am sure there will be no complaints for another beta :)
Thanks, armstrdj |

Pretty please, not when my quad cache was loaded to the brim with 66 of these B-Type DDDT2s ;P
----------------------------------------(Kidding, by the time this Beta comes, me client will have worked through a good chunk of these, to have room.) --//-- edit: but what you describe does explain the better efficiency... less WtD hits. well there is a complaint.... but i say send them anyways... can always use more betas... i am still hopping for 1 beta work unit per beta run... not greedy.... last run of the b-type DDDT-2's i only grabbed 1 so i was happy with that as well.
