BOINC NOT RUNNING message on screen saver.
My BOINC screen saver was displaying "BOINC not running" and CPU usage was minimal. When I logged on everything showed running and CPU usage was back up to 100%. I've seen similar messages before but not to the point of everything shutting sown. Is there any additional info required of should I just ignore since everything started up again? Relevant Event Log entries follow:

The messages indicate that the core client (boinc.exe) had trouble to stay in touch with the sciences. The jobs are canceled when this happens like 100 times for a task. Interested we are in the outcome of the results shown in the log. For that visit the My Grid > Result Status page and click on the status column link for any task that ended in error and post that.

What could have caused this is security software scanning while the screensaver was on, so generally it's advised to exclude the BOINC data directory (printed in message log at top when client is started).

The boincscr.exe is one of 5 elements (boinc.exe, boincmgr.exe, boinccmd.exe boinctray.exe) that needs free passing via the localhost IP 127.0.0.1 on port 31416 to be able to connect to the client and pick up the progress information. When it cant it keeps retrying to the point that it's drawing so much CPU power that the tasks start failing [zero status and heartbeat failure messages]. At any rate, investigate the event log and the logs of any AV/FW suite you have and exclude BOINC data dir from the scanned areas.

Re: BOINC NOT RUNNING message on screen saver.
The problem has reoccurred several times. However, I resolved the issue by changing my BOINC Screensaver Configuration to "Blank Screensaver after 1hr" from "Never". I left the other three setting at "1".
