Re: cool Team Crunching@EVGA... A hardware enthusiast community taking Crunching on, one unit at a time...

I worked in Poulsbo (our version of a quaint Viking Village) for years. It's really only about 20 minutes from where I live.

And the Olympic National Park... amazing place. I'm lucky that I can wake up and see the Olympic Mountains from where I live. It is indeed a beautiful view.

Yes, it is, and yes you are. I remember we went up, up, up, and it was cloudy and
all of a sudden we got evidence that above the clouds the sky is blue.
It was beautiful, and we saw quite a few deer of some kind grazing.

Yes, Poulsbo (sorry I spelt i wrongly) is really something.
In California they have a Danevang - a Danish equivalent of Poulsbo.
I have never been there, tho, but Poulsbo is funny.

I cannot help but noticing you, mflanaga
Rhode Island - my second home. I lived there for six years.
I'm really pleased to see a cruncher from the biggest little state in the Union tongue
We lived for a short while in North Providence, then we bought a small plot of land
near Chepachet and built our own house. That was interesting.
Drawings in feet and inches, drilling of a well through granite and what have you.
Please enjoy - geography and a tribute to Rhode Island at the same time:

Rhode Island Is Famous for You

Re: cool Team Crunching@EVGA... A hardware enthusiast community taking Crunching on, one unit at a time...

Seems we get around a bit as we get older. I was born in Newport, Rhode Island. Moved as a young child to Providence, Mass and later still to Fall River, Mass.

Much later I moved with my family to China Lake, Ca. A small town/naval base between Death Valley and the Mojave. Finally as a teen we settled in San Diego.

After that I did my tour with our Navy and ended up all over the world. That was fun.

Whauw, more quahogging!
Newport is so exciting - New York Yacht Club, Hammersmith Farm and all the other "summer cottages",
The Donald's boat alongside the quay, the Jewish Cemetery and the Naval Academy!
sad crying crying I want back - my ex went this summer - likes to see what he built ...

Fall River and Braga Bridge and the battleship USS Massachusetts, and Lizzie Borden in Battleship Cove ...
You do mean Providence, RI, don't you?
Naval Base between Death Valley and the Mojave confused where is the water?
San Diego - I could live there for a while tongue
Which kind of vessel did you go with?
Aforementioned nasher was on four aircraft carriers as a machinist.

Yup... sorry my mistake. Providence, RI...

On a side note... Lizzie Borden was on my moms side of the family. No... I don't carry an ax with me. :)

The only real water in China Lake is actually a man made lake, Lake Isabella which gets it's water from the mountains (Mt. Whitney which I trekked and fished as a young child).

I was strictly an airdale (Aviation) so I was station on the USS Midway (in Japan), the USS Carl Vinson and finally the USS Nimitz from which I retired on. My occupation then was Aviation Electronics Technician. Hence why I'm involved in computers I suppose, a natural extension of electronics as far as I am concerned.

Mt. Whitney is such an impressive peak rising right there on the edge of Death Valley.
And what a view. We did only go as far at the car could, but it seemed as if we could see hundreds of miles from there.
We also visited nearby Manzanar
- it must be the internment camp with the prettiest view in all of the world.

It seemed as if Lizzie Borden actually had an issue!

Do the aircraft carriers ever go to Scandinavia?
I don't think I have heard of it.
Yes, having "grown up" with electronics and IT probably makes for a lifelong interest.
They do run in through the Strait of Gibraltrar, I assume.
Do you still work?

I've never known a carrier to make a port visit in Scandinavia... pity that, I would have loved to have made one. Yes, carriers do enter the Med for port calls. Naples, Italy. Monaco etc. Had the opportunity to do an around the world cruise on the Carl Vinson's maiden voyage. I was able to spend two weeks in Rota Spain, then Monaco and a rail trip into France for a few days. Opened up my eyes to a lot of things I never realized.

I'm still working, not for the Navy though but with the Navy. I'll probably end up working until I die. I really don't know what I'd do with myself if I ever had more than a week off.

Where would such a world cruise take you?
Which ports would you visit?
Yes, going places tends to widen one's horizon.
You Americans have many opportunities to go places with your armed forces
and so many of you have taken such opportunities.
And that gives me the opportunity to fire off
one of my favourites again, again to unsuspecting new crunchers:
In the Navy
Thinking about aircraft carriers:
If I'm not mistaken a British aircraft carrier was in Copenhagen several years ago
and us natives were invited to come and see it.
But they have some that are small compared to yours, I believe.

Many are happy to work until they die. My ex is one of them.
I take it you're selfemployed then ...

No, not sel employed. I work for a large company but I've been working since I was ten years old. I don't think I'd know how to stop.

I hope nothing will ever force you to stop.
In Denmark very few people work after normal retirement
age - 60-62-65-67-70
and for a large part because labour union contracts and civil service legislation will not
allow them to work after age 70 in general,
and many choose to take advantage of generous early retirement programs.
Those working until their last breath are normally selfemployed here.
I can imagine how much working must be a part of oneself having done so from such an early age.
