Very short runtime

I have 1 completed WU that contained only 8 tasks and finished in 0.40 hour. All the other completed ones ran at least 3+ hours. Just curious to know if anyone else has seen any WUs that short.

Re: Very short runtime

Not that short, but I do have one that completed in 1.21 CPU hours, it was 8 steps as well. 75% of mine are running in excess of 5 hours.

Re: Very short runtime

Did you check the result status? Perhaps it had an error?

Re: Very short runtime

nanoprobe,

Work units for this project can contain a variable number of jobs. The program that builds work units attempts to estimate the run time of the job for the work unit being built by comparing the characteristics of similar VINA jobs that have already been run on WCG. If no similar jobs can be found at the time the work unit is built, no accurate run time can be estimated so a longest run time is assumed to prevent very long work units. If these jobs turn out to be much shorter (as in the case of your work unit) then the work unit will finish much faster. You can expect to see less of these work units as the project continues and there is a larger pool of previous data to compare against when work units are built.

Re: Very short runtime

Seippel,
Thanks for the explanation. Just wanted to point out that particular WU in case there was some kind of problem.
Thanks to you and all the techs for your hard work and dedication.

Re: Very short runtime

I've just received a Beta for this project that is running as High Priority.

After 1 hour, it has completed 4% of the job. At that rate, it will take at least 25 hours to complete. crying

Sure hope that time doesn't hold true for all of the production WUs sad

good luck flag

Re: Very short runtime

Nope most of them are taking about 7 hours with some taking 4 hours.

Well consider how much credit you are going to get with that beta workunit.

Job "errored out" after 4.32 hours. Don't know what percent had finished.

So far on this same job, it has been released for 7 replications, 6 of which have ended in an error. And all errors are at the same point in the run. The 7th job not yet reported.

The "error" portion of my log follows:
