Re: GFAM: Please do not forget to teach your security software!

This is exactly the problem I have when I am not at home. I can control from far away the work profile for my small crunching farm, but the Kaspersky Security system I have on each machine, will stop and ask for confirmation that the new process is authorized. And if I am not there to confirm, the machine will wait indefinitely. As I am for a week in a hospital due to knee surgery, I have to wait until back at home to start crunching this project. crying

Use Avast free.
You'll save money and it won't bother you.

The easy answer is to exclude the Boinc directories when you get home so this won't happen again. If you get a virus it will NOT be confined to the Boinc directories and Kaspersky, in your case, will catch it. But even if it is a virus Boinc will still crunch happily along bilissfully unaware. Chances are very slim you will catch a virus from Boinc, it means the Project Server has it and then passed it on to thousands of us.

There may be the possibility of a mask such as WCG*intelx86 or WCG*intelx86_64 or similar to let them pass.

Think even if you exclude scanning of the BOINC dir, the memory will still be tested if the app is save. Got Avast... no nonsense, and save for as long as I've had this product.

FWIW: My PCTools Free firewall always requires manual confirmation to send back the results from new Beta tests, etc. But it will happily crunch them. biggrin

@Hypernova: My little sister had her second knee op early last November. Please use your walking accessories while recovering. I still use my rollator bringing in the heavy grocery bags.

Neither did MSSE.
@Hypernova. If you have wifi at your hospital a laptop and Teamviewer would solve your problem. biggrin

Hope all goes well with the knee.

Hypernova: If you have internet access, logmein.com works pretty well and has a free version. I find it to be a life savor in situations like that. Obviously, you would have to have it installed already though.
