@Kafejka
----------------------------------------all PC powered computers that run single or multiple monitors can do it...but it all depends on hardware! also, some new TVs are Android based with ARM processors, which makes them ideal for WCG crunching of OET or FA@h... if u have those devices, u can pursue to hook them also on WCG! ![]() |

Just what I want to do is root and load BOINC onto my $3,200 1080p HD Smart TV so I can burn it up, whereas I can buy a used 4 core Intel computer for $100 and know it will work. What are you crazy people thinking?

Well, I tried to discuss it, because some people might have only a smart TV, and it would be simply good if they could crunch, too.
One more source of power for our net!! Well, I hope that one day, some smart TVs will simply have a label "BOINC friendly and tested". A dream... for now ... but BOINC for smartphones was a dream, too, and it came true.... All the best. Some dreams come true. MS |

@Martin
----------------------------------------Maybe this can help: http://www.android.com/tv/ I have read in others fórums that the implementation of Lollipop on Android TV's are in the first stages. Some hangs and not all apps can be loaded or run...Perhaps a better Tv with better Android will appear in 2016... Greetings Emili

It's definitely possible, I even seen people install full versions of Windows on TV's, these things are basically turning into computers lol. You could probably install BOINC in your car as well if you buy one of those latest TESLA electric cars, which is basically a PlayStation on wheels :)

Dear fellow crunchers,
In my personal view, this thread is in someway different than many others. Why? Well, installing BOINC on ordinary smart TVs would bring one very important advantage: It would take BOINC out of the „this is something for techies“ corner. Ordinary people owning only the smart TV and no other computer at all would learn about BOINC, get to know it and in the end – I am sure about this – love it. The consequence: A real large number of new crunchers. So – in my view – it is really worth doing something for this thread and topic and we sould not let it „rest in peace“. What can be done? First possibility: Check whether your personal smart TV would allow to install BOINC and publish the producer name and the type of the TV here. Result: We could get a list of smart TVs ready for BOINC. Others, who do not have a smart TV, yet, but maybe a real old tube, could buy some of these smart TVs and no other. Second possibility: Write letters to smart TV producers urging them to test their smart TVs with BOINC and asking them to allow installation of BOINC, stating that this will not damage the appliance. We could tell the producers in this letter, that BOINC readiness is critical to us and many others. I personally am sure that an advertising campain for smart TVs stating that „With your new TV, you can not only watch TV in the best resolution and more colourful than ever but also save lives contributing to science, because the TV has BOINC preeanstalled, but nevertheless it is your personal decision to activate it“ So, give it a shot, TV producers: Test your TVs with BOINC and pre-install it! Thank you in the name of science, scientists and patients suffering from very severe diseases!! Thank you!!! |

At the moment there are an important inconvenient: watching Tv is incompatible with processing BOINC at the same time. All processors are used to manipulate graphics in TV.
----------------------------------------Perhaps in the future an octacore ( or faster processors ) will make it posible if Smart TV are created in mind to "game station"... Greetings Emili
