The World Community Grid is the backbone of my entry in the #SciFund Challenge being conducted on RocketHub.com. My project, STEMulate Learning, is trying to develop crowdfunding support for a permanent 10-node grid to be installed at a local school. This builds on top of prior workshops in visualization and HPC I called "scrap-heap supercomputing" held for middle school and high-school children.

I have found that kids have really been excited by workshops on high-performance computing when they see a large group of computers working together on big "meaningful" projects - several of my high school groups have formed teams and even gone on to recruit businesses and friends to deploy BOINC-based grid computing projects after our workshops ended. The World Community Grid is a tremendously valuable tool for education because all of the projects are of high value and entry is very easy and visible through daily statistics for the various team members.

I just wanted to pass along the extended value WCG has provided in exciting kids in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) subjects as well as in taking a global look at challenges that will face their generation in turn. Such a magnificent effort, thanks to the whole community!
