Got now a few batch 46 and a 49 running. If you hit properties after selecting a task, you can see that the RAM limit is set to 250MB and the VM/workset being where the rest would go. Not in BOINC properties, but in System Monitor (Task Manager), the Resident Memory use is well into the 200MB as is the virtual, where the 46 has about 37MB. Where the slowdown could be coming from is the disk IO I'm suspecting. Those with batch 50 would have to tell.
Yes, do hope that uplinger or seippel check in. Can't remember if this came out during the beta test of batch 50, probably not as in beta the chance of getting multiple of the same batch would have been small. Maybe something to monitor by beta testers on the next run. --//-- |

I'm hitting this too. Job DSFL_ 00000050_ 0000011_ 0458_ 0. Running Linux on a dual-core 1.86Ghz laptop with 1GB of RAM. Running a C4CW work unit simultaneously. Using only a web browser and an email client at the same time, neither of which is known for being a resource hog. The status for the DSFL work unit states "Waiting for Memory". When it finds that memory and starts running the machine becomes unusable.
Also, work unit DSFL_ 00000050_ 0000002_ 0143_ 0 errored out after a couple hours earlier in the day. I had never had an error on this project on this machine before. I wasn't using the machine while that one was going so I'm not sure how the performance was affected by that one. |

If you hit properties after selecting a task, you can see that the RAM limit is set to 250MB and the VM/workset being where the rest would go. The virtual memory size reported in BOINC is around 800 MB at the moment (it varies) for the one batch 50 that I have running now. But Windows reports the virtual memory to be 400 MB, which is the lower limit that I manually set. So whatever BOINC is reporting, I don't think that it is running on my disk drive. And the CPU usage in BoincTasks shows as 96.7%, which is reasonable. It would be a lot lower than that if it were running from disk. But "virtual memory" may not necessarily imply disk as I usually assume; it may be located in DRAM in this case, maybe because I set my WCG Device Profile to use no more than 0% virtual memory. Note that I am running a Ramdisk also, which is where the BOINC directory is located, but the virtual memory is not there either (I did not put it there, and there is no room for it anyway). At any rate, if you want to run DSFL at the moment, you need a lot of memory. That is fine with me; it has been largely unused for most projects for me. No errors until now, but i found my 4 GB rig "waiting for memory", running 8xDSFL.
----------------------------------------DSFL_00000050_0000020_0898_0 consumes >800 MB RAM running for 29 minutes. DSFL_00000050_0000020_0757_0 started for the first 2 minutes with 200 MB, then quickly reached 900 MB. The other 6 tasks running were downloaded ~24 hours ago and take 110-227 MB, progress between 77% and 99% . edit: now that a third new task started, my system becomes very slow. one of you stated earlier in this thread, that tasks 00000049 seem to run ok, those with 00000050 seem to cause the trouble. regarding my work units, i can confirm this. There appear to be no more DSFL WUs in the feeder. Looks like one of the techs is trying to clean out these big uns.

I had this running as my only active project (to get sapphire), running while computer in use, with LAIM on. Today my computer was completely unresponsive; had to hard reboot it. Noticed after BOINC started that this project was eating up 2.75 out of my max 3GB of RAM and my computer was almost unusable. I've since turned BOINC to only run when the user is inactive, and turned off LAIM.
