I have a new computer replacing my old workstation.WCG was running on my old computer under account mihaig and was reporting results, cumulating points.
----------------------------------------When I reinstalled WCG on the new computer, it automatically connected to account IBM and team IBM. How can I connect to account mihaig? When I go to my account on WCG website, I see only the old computer as a device, but not the new one. Can I transfer the settings from thew old computer to the new one? Not anything I have done, but try signing on using your old membername and password. Look at My Grid and ensure that My Profile and My Team are set the way you want them. Your computer will have a new device, but it should be part of your old account.

I am wondering how my profile info can be used. It says:
The following information is useful for attaching computers to World Community Grid: Project URL: www.worldcommunitygrid.org Account Key: ec99bxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx What are the steps to connect to MY GRID? Where can I find the documentation that explains how to attach computers? Regards, Mihai. |

Hello mihaig,
You should just use the same membername, password and email address when registering your computer. Are you using the same email address for all your BOINC installations? Lawrence |

Hi mihaig,
You should visit the following URL, then you can find the way. http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/help/viewTopic.do?shortName=changereg The following are copy of some part of this page: ================ start of copy ==================== Steps: 1. Open the World Community Grid – BOINC software by double left mouse clicking on the World Community Grid icon in your system tray at the bottom right hand side of your window. 2. Once it is opened, if you see the ‘Simple View’, then click on the text that says ‘Advanced View’. 3. Select the ‘Projects’ tab and select World Community Grid. Then click on the button that says ‘Detach’. 4. Now go to the menu items at the top of your screen and select advanced and select ‘Tools’ and then ‘Attach to project…’. This will open a dialogue box. If 'Attach to project…' is grayed out, see the instructions below. 5. In the dialogue box, click ‘Next’. On the next screen, scroll through the list of BOINC projects and select World Community Grid and then click the ‘Next’ button. 6. On the next screen, enter the member name and password for the user that you want to register this device under. Congratulations! You are now attached under the new member name. Enabling 'Attach to project…': If in step 4 the option ‘Attach to project…’ is grayed out and you are unable to select it, then you need to open the file C:\Program Files\BOINC\cc_config.xml using an application such as Notepad. Once you open this file you will see a line that looks like: <disallow_attach>1</disallow_attach> change this line so that it looks like: <disallow_attach>0</disallow_attach> Now save the file. Go ahead and close the World Community Grid – BOINC software by selecting File -> Exit. You can start it again by going to Start -> Programs -> World Community Grid – BOINC Agent -> World Community Grid – BOINC Manager. You should now be able to complete step 4 above. If you experience any problems please visit our forums or utilize the “contact us” feature at the bottom of most pages of our website. ================ end of copy ==================== |

I am not asked to register. I download the software, install it and it starts running. I see the acct=IBM and the team=IBM. I ahve no idea how this information was setup by WCG. Hmm, looks like you didn't download BOINC from the "normal" locations, either here at WCG, https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/reg/ms/viewDownloadAgain.do or the normal BOINC download-page http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php But anyway, assuming there's not something funny going on with the non-standard BOINC-client you're apparently using, to fix do: 1: In BOINC Manager, Advanced View, select WCG on the Project-tab, and hit "Detach", and answer "Yes". 2: Afterwards, then WCG isn't listed any longer, select to "Attach to project", and then you comes to the list with projects either find WCG among the projects or just paste the url http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ into the field at the botton. After htting "ok" (or something), you'll be asked for Username and so on, make sure you'll select "Existing account" (or something similar) and type-in your Username and Password. If these steps doesn't work, my suggestion is, verify the location of your BOINC data-directory (one of the first few lines in the message-tab or log). Also verify location of the BOINC-application-files (normally under "c:\program files\boinc" or possibly "c:\program files (x86)\boinc" or possibly "...\world community grid" instead of BOINC). Uninstall your current BOINC-client, goto there BOINC data-directory is located and make sure to delete all files including sub-directories in the BOINC data-directory. You should repeat the same with BOINC-application-files location. Afterwards, download the "normal" BOINC-client from either of the locations listed above, and use this instead. ![]() "I make so many mistakes. Ingleside, why advise to get an external version? Mihaiq is held to use the IBM internal software catalog that includes BOINC, set to register to standard account / team [pushed down if not pulled].
mihaiq, don't know why you posted your question twice [in an existing thread and then in a new thread], but *DO* follow jl19669's post, as that contains the full steps to change from IBM default member account to your own. The instructions were written for your scenario. --//-- |
