Please help find answer to this question. Also pkease redirect me to correct forum if this is not the right place to enquire about this issue.
My Boinc clinet version 6.10.58 seems to pick for computing tasks that are due 10 days later while there are tasks that are due in a day or two. How can I make it always pick the earliest due task first. There might have been a FAQ for this on "Start Here". But its bit . ly links are now dead. I get page not found errors. Webpage: https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,21501 Under this "Z.Tasks aka Work Unit Processing Topics:" the defunct pages are 2.# Earliest Deadline First processing of Tasks (See also "Running - High Priority") And 5. Running - High Priority processing of Tasks Rev. Sep 25, 2008 Can someone help me find their contents or answers to my Issue? Many thanks in Advance. |

Welcome to the forums Gopal Sharma
Boinc will start start computing task to make suee a deadline is not missed. So what probobly happened is boinc compute on a first come first serve basis and the ealier task end in ten days. This happen if your in multiple projects in wcg.You can learn more about deadline here . Also if you want the erlier ending task to run first then suspend the other tasks. |

I think HCC tasks has one of the earliest deadlines (7days). Some Beta tasks have <4day deadline, but Beta's are not regular/frequent. Resends also have shorter deadlines, but they span projects.
----------------------------------------I think you asked the wrong question; What I think you want is a project with a singular quorum, so your tasks validate on the next scheduled update, a project that doesn't have wing-men? PS. Having a low cache will increase the amount of resends/rush-jobs you pick up, presuming your system is fast and reliable. [Edit 1 times, last edit by skgiven at Oct 11, 2011 10:58:02 PM] |

If you only run tasks only from World Community Grid (none from other projects like GPUGrid, collatz, etc.) you can set the BOINC client preferences to always run the earlier deadline tasks first by setting the "switch between applications every" value to 7200.
----------------------------------------There are 2 ways to set this, in the WCG device profile on this web site or in the individual machine preferences. The recommended way is in the web profile. To set it in the web site profile, go to Device Manager->Device Profiles and click on the profile for the machine. Scroll down to the bottom and it will be the last option under "Cross Project Settings". It will probably be 120 minutes. Change it to 7200 or more and be sure to click the Save button. After you save it open the BOINC manager and click "Update" on the "Projects" tab to force a profile update from the web. If you are not sure what profile the device is using, open the BOINC manager in "Advanced View" and go to the "Messages". Scroll up to near the start and you will see something that reads "10/10/2011 10:06:23 AM General prefs: using separate prefs for school". That is the profile the device is using. To change it in the individual device open the BOINC manager and go to Advanced View. Click the Advanced->Preferences->Processor Usage menu items. At the bottom is the "Other Options" section which contains the value. After changing it be sure to click the "OK" button.

Keep in mind the number of hours left to compute the task is just an estimate. I have seen tasks that had 100 hours to do the job only take in reality five hours. Next update or a few updates later doing the same task type got the task to display how long it took on average. So over time the estimate corrects itself.

Thanks. Your post helped and I could reset prioritization using instructions you gave. . NOw the WCG tasks are running in order of earliest deadline first. Would you be able to point out documentation on what this setting is supposed to do?
Like you said, I run tasks only from WCG projects. |

Thanks to all those who responded. I was trying to manually start stop taks but this is now automated using the inbuild scheduler setting guidance I received on this thread.

A separate FAQ from the section in the Deadline FAQ (link fixed) was drafted last night, just need to format it and frame it in proper Italo-Inglese diction... greater then, last year was better than this one, etc.
Am interested in the version number of client and how high you set the switch time as it has to be pretty high to force the regular 7-10 day deadline tasks to follow the *Panic* sequence. AND, you reminded me that some clients will stop work fetching if all cores are running high priority... just in case. EDF is a still used, but deprecated term [by the developers :-] Oh, and is your Activity menu setting "always" or "based on preferences"? --//-- P.S. If anyone stumbles of FAQs going to the Unofficial BOINC Wiki... that wiki is no more! Some pages I'd liked to have rescued, but found no cached pages... maybe in the time-machine. Let me know in the website support forum. There's a thread there for Start Here FAQ issues. |

Dear SekeRob
Thanks for your attention to my Post. Answers to questions you asked: 1. My client version is 6.10.58. wxWidgets Version is 2.8.10. I Use Windows 2009 or 6.1.7601 (seen in a command prompt). 2. I Have set it to be 7400 minutes. "wplachy" on the forum had suggested it to be 12 hours or 7200 minutes. 3. My Activity menu setting is 'based on preferences'. But I have configured them so that BOINC runs practically all the time except when CPU load hits 75% or more. |
