I have had one computer (device) stop communicating with the World Grid server. The device stopped on May 7, 2005. I have tried to correct the problem with work arounds. I have pop-up protection; I have tried that work around. I have tried to delete the affected device profile and could not get that done. I have looked to try to reinstall software and cannot get that process completed. My intent is to get this device working again. I cannot find other suggestions in the forum that seem worthwhile. Could anyone put me on another track?

Tell us about your computer. What model is it? How does it connect to the internet? What OS does it run? How much RAM does it have? Is virtual memory enbled? Does it meet the system requirements at http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/help/viewTopic.do?shortName=minimumreq ?
Security programs can interfere with installation, as mentioned in http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=1804 . What antivirus, spyware and firewall programs do you use? Are you running with Data Execution Prevention ( http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=1297 ) enabled? Could you explain just how and at what point attempted installs of the World Community Grid fail? mycrofth |

The date you mentioned on which your particular agent stopped working matches the date we updated the software. I am guessing that your software firewall, spyware checker, or similar tool has the World Community Grid agent blocked for some reason, perhaps because the tool noticed that the software was updated. I would look at all of those tools to see if they have rules that have been set to block the agent. Perhaps someone anwered a pop-up from one of those tools in a way which blocks the agent. Or, if you have some other tool which prevents you from seeing the firewall pop-up and answering that, this would cause the problem too.
When you open the agent window, does it give a message at the bottom of the agent window? What is it? Normally it would say "Primary task is executing". Otherwise, if you simply uninstall the agent and then install it anew, this may solve the problem too. |

Dear Viktors,
I have all of the blocking software. Usually, Norton does this to me, but I cannot find the order that would unblock the problem. Further, I don't see where the download of the World Community Grid software is on the Home page. (My brother-in-law was over and installed the program. I think he had me out on some errand while he was having all the fun). In any case. Thank you for all the time. I expect that I will remove the program and re-install to my computer. I might look around a bit more though before I do it. Thanks again. Dan |

It is hard to miss on the Home Page. You either click the button that says "Download Now" in the section "How you can help" or the one a bit further to the right that says "Join Now" in the box that says "BECOME A MEMBER". |
