Good Morning MOT One year ago today we lost our teammate Dave Bell. We seem to be getting Million+ days fairly regularly. It would be a lot easier to do if we had some new members (hint hint). Everyone have a great day. You deserve it. |

Good Friday Morning MOT Congratulations Fanie! Another Million point day. My wife and I got new DROID cell phones recently. They are a hoot; we use them to text and talk to the kids and grandkids. Driving down the interstate she does the occasional voice based Google search. Very cool… but kills the old "bar-bet" fun. It is so easy to find out what a "Yellowhammer" (a bird in the Bunting family) is or what was the name of the airplane that dropped the bomb on Hiroshima. (Enola Gay the name of the mother of Col. Paul Warfield Tibbets..who hated her name because backwards it spelled alone). Just think of all the bar-bet fun this kills off. Unintended consequences of technologies .. good and bad .. large and small. Every so often, I get this sensation of revelation. My grandfather was amazed when he saw TV. Pictures coming right through the air. It is interesting to note how young folks communicate. Some universities have stopped issuing email addresses to students. They just text what they want to communicate to the kids cell phones. And get replies. Email is unused but for more formal (believe that…more formal?-email?) communications. Did anyone notice that the U.S. Post office is losing $23 million ---a day? Too bad I and my peers will not be around for the next 70-100 years to see what happens. It will be a hoot for those observant and interested enough. The implications continue to stagger me. I just hope some bunch of idiots or other does not use one of the myriad of technologies to end it all for all of us. That in itself is an argument for immigrating to other planets. Of course that would require communications would travel much faster than potential payloads to prevent dual lunacy. I am sitting here thinking about what would be the criteria for selecting the first immigrants. I am of two minds. Suppose that it depends on several things... One is which of the two worlds do you have the most hope for, another is does the selector get to select himself/herself. The possibilities are endless and somewhat amusing if you have a distorted sense of humor; so it amuses me. Well anyway, enough babble for the moment. Everyone have a great Friday and Thanks for all you do for the WCG objectives. Edit> Let me revise that... Lets call it a "broad-based" sense of humor rather than "distorted". ![]() ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by RT at Oct 28, 2011 4:12:26 PM] |
