I started my participation in Computing for Clean Water only yesterday and I will be commited to it and other WCG projects as much as possible.
While reading through the project overview yesterday I was wondering what will happen when mankind will succeed in resolving clean water shortage problem. Has anyone pondered what would be the outcome when up to 3,900 children would survive in a day (as is estimated daily death rate)? As big of a shock this number is it also means that in reversed scenario it would be as much of a demand for other resources - food, land, energy, etc. |

There's enough work there for a LOOOONG time. John ![]() crunching, crunching, crunching. AMD Ryzen 5 2600 6-core Processor with Windows 11 64 Pro. Would be a good bet that mankind will never run out of problems to solve even if we did solve the issue of ensuring that we can never run out of clean water.

I guess We´ll kill each other anyway.
If it´s not because of Water shortage, there will be other reasons -_-. I guess the problem is the mankind itself. The World is not large enough for 7.000.000.000 people (to live in western civilisation standarts). Whatever we do, one solved problem leads towards 2 new problems or even more. |

Unfortunately, the day that universal clean water is a reality is so far off into the future that many other current assumptions about overpopulation won't be valid. Right, now overpopulation is a problem mostly confined to Third World countries where women have, on average, more children because of fear that many won't survive childhood. As cleaner water, and other health related improvements increase the survival rates of children born, all evidence indicates that the number of children born in these countries will decline. In many developed countries, the rate at which the average woman in producing children falls below the "replacement rate" and the population is actually declining. Look at Japan, some European countries and even Russia. In other words, the human population will likely decline over coming centuries. At the same time, better, and potentially unlimited energy sources may be available, like the long expected fusion power, cheap renewables like solar, thorium reactors, etc. Food production can be increased with more efficient agricultural methods, and current high wasteof available food stocks reduced, and hopefully developed country humans will realize they should not over consume food which leads to obesity, disease, and shortened lives. In the US, computerized bar code cash register scanning has allowed food retailers to efficiently manage their inventories, and has significantly reduced the amount of food, particularly produce, that each store previously had to discard due to spoilage. Technology improvements are making things better all the time. Land space is not a problem, and if, in developed countries, like the US, if many suburban and rural residents all decided to grow fruits and vegitables on land now used just to grow decorative grass lawns, the nutritious food supply could be increased substantially. To sum it all up, the universal availability of clean water will make this a better, and more sustainable world, for humans. Not add to overpopulation, disease and premature death. Keep on crunching for clean water, and make the world a better place for generations yet to arrive on the planet. |

We still throw away the same amount we did 15yrs ago (at least all the stores I've worked at). Can goods and Frozen yes they have been improved, just not the fresh perishables. ![]() ![]() |

The single problem is a very bad management Worldwide for all human and natural ressources. A good development is in relation with your environnement .... An economical strategy in Bolivia can't be the same than in New Zealand !!!!! The daily life for workers in mongolia can't be the same than in Paris, France.....
People have lost their local intelligence !!!! and are scared with the international economical standings. With a clever management, I am sure the Earth could accept 12 billons people without problems. |
