Re: What GPU's would you bring to the WCG table?

Here's a link for how to install the proprietary AMD drivers in Ubuntu:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/ATI

For some BOINC GPU projects, to run them on AMD cards you also need to install the AMD APP SDK, which may be downloaded (along with installation instructions) from:
http://developer.amd.com/sdks/amdappsdk/downloads/pages/default.aspx

In order to run OpenCL applications on GPU, you will need BOINC 7.xx.

Also, you need to manually restart BOINC each time you restart the computer; otherwise BOINC will not detect the GPU. You can do this by getting a terminal window and entering:

sudo /etc/init.d/boinc-client restart

and entering your user password when prompted.

Setup is very similar for Nvidia cards. The proprietary drivers can be installed from the Additional Drivers menu; then you download and install the CUDA SDK from the Nvidia website if necessary for the BOINC application you want to run. And you must restart BOINC each time you shut down and restart the computer.

I hope this helps.

Thanks to both you AND captainjack for your help, I now have it working as expected!!!

Re: What GPU's would you bring to the WCG table?

Picked up another GT 430 for $27 after MIR. This will go into the same box with the other two that match it. It should arrive at my door in about 3 days.

One of my borged systems is upgrading from a low end AMD onboard video to a GTX 660TI.

Re: What GPU's would you bring to the WCG table?

Here is the list of my PC gear:

core i7 930 2933 MHz; gigabyte EX58-UD3R
core i7 920 2800 MHz; gigabyte EX58-UD5
core i7-2600k 4.5GHz ; gigabyte P67A-UD7 (water cooled)
core i7-3930k 4.2GHz ; gigabyte x79-ud5 (water cooled)
core i5-3570k 3.6GHz ; asus P8H77-I
core i5-3450 3.1GHz ; intel DH77DF

Inside the computers, I have the following graphics cards:
2x Nvidia GTX560TI
5x Nvidia GTX580
1x Nvidia GTX460

I'd be eager to contribute to WCG. Looking at the FAQ there's still no GPU projects. That info still current?

The GPUs are currently in use for some cpu/gpu hybrid code (it needs both a decent CPU and GPU to run, so CPUs aren't available for WCG just yet)

Re: What GPU's would you bring to the WCG table?

WCG is still only BETA testing an app for HCC. I will warn you that their app sounds similar to your current setup where it will use a portion of a thread/core and will reserve one to be dedicated to the work unit. So, you are correct that WCG still does not have a GPU project in the normal since. The amount of core usage differs between nVidia and AMD/ATI cards but wont be official until BETA testing is over. Feel free to read through many posts both here in the GPU section and the BETA section. There is a lot of information available on the subject.
