Re: Looking for survivors to join Team "The survivors"

Fatalistic?
The $3.99 part has shipped for $6.98 shipping & handling.
Doesn't that just torque you off when the shipping & handling is more money than the item?
Doesn't that just torque you off when someone changes their tires twice a year?
Doesn't it just torque you off when someone leaves a chair at the beach?
And what is that mermaid doing?

Re: Looking for survivors to join Team "The survivors"

I predict a new silver badge in CEP2 by tomorrow.
Did you ever wonder why the BOINC default disk space is 10GB?
CEP2 on my i7 is using nearly 6GB of disk space.
If you are not getting CEP2 work you have to go to your device profile and select custom.
CEP2 is the only WCG project that defaults to 1 work unit.
It does that because not all PCs can handle CEP2, it has project specific settings.

Yes.
Yes. He could have let the tyre men do it and spent that time in some other way.
We need changing tyres, tho: Summer>winter>summer - Rosie got hers three weeks ago.
I will not be caught dead driving like an American in the snow. I have tried that! Never again!
No. Everything washes up on beaches. Look at it as art, please. I needed to illustrate the chair theme.
And what is that mermaid doing?
I think the mermaid just watched one tyre change too much ... What do you think?

Re: Looking for survivors to join Team "The survivors"

We don't use torque wrenches to change tires, we tighten them till they break and then back off half a turn.
I don't change tires with the seasons I have all season tires and if that doesn't work I have a 4 wheel drive off-road pick-up truck with a self recovery winch.
I don't call a wrecker, people sometimes call me.

"I will not be caught dead driving like an American in the snow. I have tried that! Never again!"
"driving like an American in the snow," what does that mean?

I'm impressed with your selfsufficiency.
On top of that you come across as human.

Re: Looking for survivors to join Team "The survivors"

The winter in Seattle video is not a snow problem and is not indigenous to the US.
It is an ice problem, commonly known as black ice.
Sand or salt can help but the best solution is not to drive under those conditions as road crews cannot be everywhere.
I defy anyone to drive on ice without studded tires, which are illegal here.

Or, you could consider it a sport, i.e. automobile bowling.
You get points for every pedestrian you knock over.

Re: Looking for survivors to join Team "The survivors"

Admitted, that video is extreme, and I put it up for the fun of it.
I have, however, in the real world in New England seen many a
hind-wheel-pushed car making the most hopeless maneuvers.
And not all Americans have your knack for driving, rcc.
And I'm aware that you have special conditions.
We do, too, albeit of a different character, even though we can get black ice, too.
My previous car, a VW Touran, was from birth fitted with summer tyres.
The first time I drove it I almost couldn't move.
I almost couldn't stand still either when I needed to pump gas because of a slight, slight slope.
The pattern of the tyres, which looked somewhat like this,
didn't make for any decent grip at all:

In Denmark the discussion as whether to use one set of tyres year round
or change between summer and winter tyres have gone on for years.
More and more people choose to change.
If we want to go to Germany, we must change,
because there it is mandatory to use winter tyres.

Re: Looking for survivors to join Team "The survivors"

Congratulations on the silver badge for CEP2. I don't really like crunching CEP2 because of the long time between checkpoints. It's not so bad in the winter time when I can leave my computers on to help heat the house biggrin but in the summer when I have to turn my big desktop off during the day to save on air conditioning costs, I can lose quite a bit of time if the WU's haven't checkpointed in a while.

Re: Looking for survivors to join Team "The survivors"

I'm not real fond of CEP2 because it is beating the daylights out of the SSD Cache and hard drive.
The completed work units take forever to upload.
In the last week the run time went from 30 to 56 days completed.
So I am happy with the results.
Also crunching C4CW, DSFL, and GFAM.
The goal is to get sapphire badges in the above four projects.
It does not matter how long it takes.

Re: Looking for survivors to join Team "The survivors"

It's a miracle!
A computer part shipped cross country via USPS and it arrived in 3 days.
Not the $72 for 2 day delivery.
Not the $120 for 1 day delivery.
First Class Mail for $6.98.
It's a miracle!

Now I can put the Gateway back together and see if it smokes or crunches.
What does it mean when the power supply is glowing a bright orange?
