I realize this isn't directly related to WCG, but I do know several people here use it and I can trust their instructions.
----------------------------------------I've recently started using boinctasks to monitor my remote systems and am having issues getting it to recognize any system that is running on wireless. My guess is it's some setting in the router, but I'm clueless as to what it might be. I know I'm configuring the remote computers correctly because I can see the ones with a wired connection just fine. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. ![]() Distributed computing volunteer since September 27, 2000 [Edit 1 times, last edit by KWSN - A Shrubbery at Sep 17, 2011 1:02:46 AM] |

It used not to, but I had to set up the remote_hosts.cfg file in the BOINC datadir with the IP addresses of devices that are allowed to connect. Copied that file to all devices. A client restart then reads in the allowed IP list.
----------------------------------------Think there's a command that can be passed via boinccmd to allow remote connection in general, or it is <allow_remote_gui_rpc>1</allow_remote_gui_rpc> that needs addition to the cc_config.xml. Neither these 2 I've had to do. My router is configured to ''reserve'' IP addresses for the WIFI devices, so they're always the same, even with DHCP active. Yes, crunching is simple, but not *that* simple if wanting to do anything beyond single device crunching. :D --//-- edit: cfg, not xml extension. Oh, btw, if you've got firewalls running, same as localhost, port 31416, [or other to configure port of choice], needs passage through for the RPC controls.

Thanks Sek, I knew you were running this program. I've already done the remote_hosts.cfg IP address on all the systems. My next idea was to turn on the remote gui for any IP option, just needed to find it.
----------------------------------------I think the firewall is good because I have no issue with the hard wired systems, but I'll look into that again as well. In any case, I've managed to connect to the most inaccessible computers so I can live with it if I can't make it work any better than it is now. ![]() Distributed computing volunteer since September 27, 2000 |

Run into the same problem. My localhost and a laptop are wireless and the XP system is Ethernet attached to a private network. I'm investigating port forwarding through a PK5000.

Have you tried the BT forum?
http://www.efmer.eu/forum_tt/index.php Searching there may find a solution. If not, Fred (BT author) is most helpful. |

OK, so the end result was it just started working one day without my changing anything. I had already opened the firewall, set the remote_hosts.cfg and password files on all systems and I opened the monitor one day to see it recognizing additional systems.
----------------------------------------Glad it's working, but it obviously has internal issues. Edit: On a side note, it works wonderfully with Linux (Ubuntu). Those systems were a breeze, it was the Windows systems in various flavors that didn't appear and still vanish on occasion without any discernible reason. ![]() Distributed computing volunteer since September 27, 2000 [Edit 1 times, last edit by KWSN - A Shrubbery at Sep 17, 2011 1:05:55 AM] |

Had that... the disconnecting of a remote client, mostly when using saving the RC preferences. Then I added the IP's to the OSses hosts file, old classic, forgotten, and now it works uninterrupted and fast. W7 did require some tweaking at the time to get them to be seen, until I got the workgroup [homegroup I guess in inglese] properly configured. Of course the core client needs restarting for it to read in the remote_hosts.cfg file.
Glad you got it working. --//-- |

Have you assigned static IP addresses to each of the remote Windows machines? If not they can change with each reboot and BT won't see them. Exiting and restarting BT on your end can sometimes cure that problem. Teamviewer is an excellent free program for managing remote machines and making needed changes on BT.
