All the profiles except "Default" have disappeared from my "Device profiles" menu.
----------------------------------------On my "Device manager" menu only "Default" is an active link. I can see "Home," "Work", and "School" listed after the various devices to which I'd assigned them, but they are just black type, not links. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by kateiacy at Aug 30, 2011 7:33:09 PM] |

Hi kateiacy,
----------------------------------------Not here. Can you go to device manager and click on a device name link. The screen then appears where you can select which device profile to associate in a drop down box. Please tell us your finding. --//-- edit: name not n a,e [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Aug 30, 2011 6:24:48 PM] |

Hi Sekerob,
----------------------------------------The only choice in the drop-down box is "Default." The other profiles no longer show. Thanks. Kate ![]() |

I hope a tech or someone can help. Something did happen to my account settings at WCG. I am still missing all the device profiles except "Default."
----------------------------------------When I got home and could check my machines, their preferences had been changed and in fact on three of them, all the WUs were suspended. I could get them started again by setting the local Preferences in the BOINC manager. On the WCG web page, my Default preferences had been changed. I could get in and put them back the way I wanted them for now. We'll see if they stay. ![]() |

You're not making use a central account manager such as BOINCstats AMS? Just want to eliminate any outside agency factors.
----------------------------------------If the profiles were changed, then the message log would print to have retrieved a newer profile and which location. Plz check that too. If you cant wait on tech response, you could try recreating one [not all] and see if the specific settings reappear as they were. Very puzzling. --//-- edit: BOINCstats inserted. However, your second point (to check the message log) led to the solution of the mystery. Last night I had attached one of my laptops to Quake Catcher Network. On further investigation, it turns out that QCN has a default definition for "Default" settings, but nothing for "Home," "Work," and "School." When that laptop did an update to QCN, apparently that reset the profiles on WCG to NULL. Thus when my WCG-only machines updated, their profiles were not there for them and they suspended their WCG jobs. I went ahead and recreated the three profiles on WCG. (They weren't the same as I'd left them.) I'm detaching that one laptop from QCN, at least for the time being. Interesting and fortunate that this happened right now! Tomorrow I'm giving a presentation on volunteer computing to a group of environmental science students. Maybe I won't recommend QCN to them after all. ![]() Kate (happily back to normal crunching on WCG) ![]() |

BOINC will latch on to the most recently changed profile, no matter what project. I haven't ever had problems with another project nullifying my other profiles but, to be safe, update your WCG profile after you work with any other project. Even clicking the save button without making any changes will make it more recent than your other projects and WCG will then take precedence.
