Re: Problem with Windows 7 64 bit?

OK, now I ran Prime95 again, for over 24 h (without WCG) but it didn't find any errors. So I assume the error from last weekend resulted somehow from running WCG and Prime at the same time.

A friend of mine suggested a BIOS-update, which I have just finished.
Ah, and I will deinstall WCG now and download and install it again.

Re: Problem with Windows 7 64 bit?

Hi,
I run Win- 7 64-bit also, and I accidentally left my computer on all night. When I woke up this morning, all I got was 'there was an unspecified problem' error message on the pop ups for the screen saver and they were coming too quickly for me really get through the entire message. My computer was in front of my fan all night, so I'm not really sure what the problem is.

Thanks

Re: Problem with Windows 7 64 bit?

Well, now WCG ran without a problem for the last few days.
So I am assuming that it will run stable as long as I don't turn it up to 100 %.
I will keep it that way. Unless somebody has another suggestion. It feels a little uncomfortable to not know the exact reason for the crashes.

Re: Problem with Windows 7 64 bit?

Have you tried testing your memory independent of the O/S and applicaion programs? If not I think it would be worth a try. The program I use is the free version of MemTest86

It sometimes takes more than 1 pass to identify a problem.

Good luck!

Re: Problem with Windows 7 64 bit?

Yes, I ran MemTest for several hours without any errors. Memory was my first guess, too. But then I think my PC should crash independently of WCG, which it doesn't.

By the way, WCG is still running fine here with max use of 5 of 6 cores.

@RSlater: Did your error occur again? I think I remember that error message, too. But I don't think that is a severe problem.

Re: Problem with Windows 7 64 bit?

Hi Ultron,
I moved to a smaller apartment this April. Setting up my computers was incredibly frustrating. My Windows 7 64-bit quad started running a permanent systems process at 100% and I could not figure out what it was or why it was running. So I ended up reducing my BOINC projects. Then 2 months ago I noticed that it was gone. clown I still don't understand what happened, but that is why I have been suspicious about dedicating every core to BOINC this year, even though that is what I have always done and am doing again right now.
Is one of your cores ordinarily running System Idle or is something non-BOINC normally running on it?

Re: Problem with Windows 7 64 bit?

I have had my new i5 running W7 64 for 3 weeks now. The system is running fine and seems to have settled in at about 1800 credits per day. All is well, apparently.
