Falconet, I do believe that the webcast is well and truly over - as, unless I've got my timings wrong, it started at 15:00 UTC...
----------------------------------------I'm sure that there'll be a link to a replay soon... ![]() |

Is it over or hasn't started? I have been trying for several hours now but it says the moderator hasn't started the meeting... Same here, just that wiggling bar in the centre of the page. Maybe it's a cross the big pond issue... will watch the video when it pops up in a news update. Trust with client 6.12 it will appear as a notice, same as the original announcement item. --//-- |

Yes, it is over and it was excellent. Both the presentation and the Q&A will be posted here and probably youtube. Since time was insufficient for all the questions, I was thought the overflow might get posted here. Also hope this project will interact with the forum more often (like CEP2).

I watched it late last night, and it was interesting and informative (didn't put me to sleep, despite the late hour). I appreciate the time that the project scientists invest, to put something together like this.

Some items I've found that may help:
Rosetta@Home currently has an application that has been successful in finding a ligand that binds tightly to the H1N1 type of influenza virus. They do not appear to be planning to test it for the dengue virus as well. http://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/ In the News section of their homepage, scroll down to May 14, 2011. Also May 7, 2011 for another useful entry. Appears to be limited to ligands that happen to be proteins (with some capability for proteins bound to metal ions). Some capability for designing new proteins that bind tighter. Current version of their application has a bug that makes it stop using any CPU time at all, and disables its heartbeat tests, on some computers. What you said about the FEB application makes it look like a candidate for a GPU conversion to make it use less computer time for the same eventual results, even if this means running multiple parts of the calculations at one time on a GPU instead of an actual speedup of those individual parts. See my post near the end of this thread for my latest list of what to consider when deciding how practical a GPU conversion is: http://casathome.ihep.ac.cn/forum_thread.php?id=60 |
