Explanation of batch structure for each research projekt

Hello friends,
Everyone is always curious about how much work has still to be done in the project he or she has chosen.

Wouldn't it be a good thing to have a place on the worldcommunitygrid website, in which
the scientists of each project explain the batch strucure of the project?

In the following, I will write down, what could be written in this place. I this way, I want to explain what I mean with "batch structure"

In the place I would like to see on Worldcommunitygrid webpage the following texts are meant to be found (example)

"Batch structure of Help Cure Muscular Dystrophy 2: There are 2476 batches. The number of Workunits per batch varies from 1500 to 3000.

The workunits are numbered as follows:
The first five digits from the right give the number of the batch, the rest of the numbers indicate the place of the workunit within the batch.
Example:
Workunit Number 01221000000007 means seventh wourkunit in batch number 01221

More details can be found on http://graal.ens-lyon.fr/~nbard/WCGStats/positions_en.html#det"

End of example.

The informations described as above should be availabel on Worldcommunitygrid webpage for each project.

Thank you for reading this.

I regret, that the thread about the milestone is now no longer on the top, but I strongly agree, that the milestone should indeed be celebrated.
Bye

I share your views regarding the above quote. An informed cruncher is a more productive cruncher. Unfortunately, it may take a lot of work from the host to inform crunchers and once informed, these crunchers can have ideas that may prove sometimes to be a bit too much for the host to handle or accomodate, at which time the host would then rather have uninformed crunchers confused.

Thank you for your answer.

I have thought about this.

Maybe the information about the batch structure would even make life easier for the host?

If crunchers can figure out the "round about" progress of each project with the help of the batch structure, there would be less need for status reports, written by WCG or the scientists.

And, if WCG does not want to put the information about batch structure on the website (it is work to change the website) so why not create an official sub-thread in the read only thread with official news here in the forum. Even easier to do.

All the best to everyone. Crunch on!

Bye
