Task shutting down and crashing
today, this task crashed along with BOINC causing entire day of processing to be canceled. I aborted this task 6/26/2011 5:46:48 PM | World Community Grid | task E202491_796_C.25.C23H15NS.00023149.3.set1d06_1 aborted by user

please look into it for me. it might be my problem, BOINC, OR task related. I don't know.

My Grid -> Result Status -> and under Status, click status of the work unit i.e. "Error" and Result Log will open. You can copy-paste that information into this thread and somebody will tell you what went wrong.

Sorry bout your troubles. If the task was ''user aborted'' during run, then I fear the Result Log will be empty, but who knows.

The client message log entries will be of interest too from around the time of the fail. They are found in the stdoutdae.txt file, which is located depending on OS and client version in C:\ProgramData\BOINC (Vista/W7). If not, the location of the BOINC data_dir is printed at top of the message/event log view. Could be hidden in file explorer, so typing the location in the address-bar would get you there.

this might be a little off the topic, but i wanted to give that advise anyway:

disabling intel turbo boost seems to prevent work unit re-starts from the last checkpoint (which are often hours ago from the current cpu run-time).

i use a win7 64 bit intel i7 notebook. there are no options in my bios to switch turbo on or off, but the system tray power management icon does that with windows' default settings. 'high performance' turns turbo on, 'balanced' turns it off. i've been running 8 (=all cpu threads) CEP2 tasks simultaneously for a week now without a task starting over with 'balanced' option used.

also, use 'keep in memory while suspended' and pause (or let other tasks run) while doing resource-intensive tasks such as gaming. also, suspend project before hibernating.

i'm not absolutely sure if turbo off is the reason for the improved performance. it might (possibly?) be because a CEP2 starting from 0% does a heavy disk i/o job before the cpu actually starts to work. in turbo mode, this temporarily unused thread is then offered to the other threads (work units). maybe, this 'multi-thread' usage is not working well with CEP2.

I mad at this. I like this project and would love another crack at it. also, every now and then, BOINC shuts down unexpectedly. I have may a bug OR BONIC may have a bug.

We cant help you to assess your problem unless we get more info. The startup message log of BOINC, first 35 lines will tell us allot about the basics and config. Please copy / paste in your next reply.

For starters, 6.12.26 is a train with broken engine [IMHO], unless running WCG only [CPU processing]. Developers are racing to get 6.12.33 through the formal test process, so suggest you return to the WCG endorsed 6.10.58.

Then,

max memory usage when active: 507.02MB

Normally, with CEP2 you'd like to have a little more headroom. Suggest 75% is set when in use.

And

suspend work if non-BOINC CPU load exceeds 25 %

Propose to increase to at least 50%, else your client could be pausing more than it's working. With 25% you'll see allot of

Presume you got LAIM (Leave Application In Memory when Suspended) on per project recommendation, else the CEP2 tasks will keep loading/unloading and when too often, that breaks things.

Your Virtual Memory looks rather small

But that is fine, as long as it's set to freely expand when needed. Disk free space is not an issue to allow that.

Surely recommend for a T2300 to not allow more than 1 CEP2 to run at any one time with just 1GB RAM. Default the client only gets 1 from the servers until completed/reported, so again that would then not be a problem.

But with the project mix seen in your log and GPU crunching to add, think you are testing your T2300 very hard.

I have a small laptop. I'm temp. shutting down all BOINC until I get a better computer. Everything is running HOT including the power supply unless I set the power levels to a small number like 20%. NO higher. This laptop is about 4-5 years old.
