Re: Talk of Expected Completion date of HCC

... hmmm that's a dental job question if I'd answer that, but let me phrase it this way: In the hypothetical, HCC would finish inside of 31 days as shown on the dashboard if the same computing in daily runtime were done exclusively on the GPU, hypothetically. To paraphrase what someone wrote a few days ago: What you're waiting for ;?

Re: Talk of Expected Completion date of HCC

We had projected a queue of work for HCC that would take almost two more years. While it has been speeding up some, it is way too early to tell how much the GPU support will speed the project. Furthermore, the researchers have expressed interest in running additional data. So we do not expect the project to end "inside of 31 days".

So, it seems we can close this thread for the moment, as the project isn't expected to complete in the short run confused

Yes, but will the new work, especially any GPU tasks, be considered a continuation of this project, or will it be called Phase 2?

Are the GPU WUs the same kind of JP2 images? If yes, then that's just merely an additional option to crunch the WUs (i.e. the current Phase will continue to run). And they have NOT mentioned there will be no more CPU WUs once the GPU ones go live.

Re: Talk of Expected Completion date of HCC

Well... Sekerob's dashboard is now showing that HCC has 563 days left... so we still have some crunching to do biggrin

Gotta crunch...

Re: Talk of Expected Completion date of HCC

Just entered what is now extrapolated as were HCC1 *CPU only* to the end. As was noted by Viktors, once the GPU branch is on-stream this will speed the project [HCC1] / cut the remaining days [shell shock a few again and cause incredulous exclaims of the projections were all wrong, again, but then "the researchers have expressed interest in running additional data"]. Never a dull day at WCG forums for those, who make more up than I tongue

Re: Talk of Expected Completion date of HCC

Me thinks the gpu support will speed up results A LOT!!! I can't wait!!!!!! Hope knreed has a restful Easter weekend so he and the wonderous WCG tech can feed some betas into the.server. gpus are simply amazing. With CPU time.added it appeared they ran from 230 to 5 min, with one task. Who know what will happen with many added together!!
