I finally went ahead and got them, and they're running great thus far!
----------------------------------------![]() Installation was so easy, and installed it along with my Win XP. During installation I did run into a minor difficulty, although I'm almost sure it had to do with the way my Bios settings were. Oh, also I had to get all the ubuntu upgrades before downloading the Boinc metapackage. ![]() |

That looks more than up to date.
----------------------------------------According to Berkeley the latest Linux version is 6.10.58, Windows is 6.10.60. At WCG it is also 6.10.58. That said they might have slipped one out to the Ubuntu repositories, and not updated their site. You are doing well to find 6.10.59 for Linux, most repositories still only go up to 6.10.17. I would stay away from any of the recent Betas, unless you are a dedicated tester; too many bad bugs. WCG - Windows (6.10.58) (7, Vista, XP, Me, 2000) Linux (6.10.58) (x86) (Apple) Mac (6.10.58) (PowerPC, x86) Still no X64 versions here, despite having x64apps PS. Ubuntu 11.04 will be out on 28th Apr. So anyone about to do an install might want to wait for a week. [Edit 2 times, last edit by skgiven at Apr 23, 2011 9:59:26 AM] |

I too was surprised to find that BOINC 6.10.59 was what was in the Synaptic repository for Ubuntu 11.04 Beta. I had a few problems with the 11.04 Beta when trying it from a flashdrive, so I decided not to actually install until the real release comes out. I did run a few WUs when I was running 11.04 from the flashdrive, and BOINC ran fine.
----------------------------------------This link on the Berkeley site does refer to 6.10.59 as released on Mar.25. http://boinc.berkeley.edu/trac/wiki/VersionHistory skgiven, 6.10.58 is in the standard repository for Ubuntu 10.10, so it's been easily available for Ubuntu for some time. ![]() |

Yes, the 6.10.59 is available and I really like it, the Ubuntu 11 also.
----------------------------------------The only thing and not necessarily a bug is that I had to go into my Bios settings because when I got the computer I went into it to enable master boot record security. Well that and also the fact that I chose to install it along with the Windows xp. That was very easy and very automated, I liked the dual operating system installation option too, but anyway, when both operating systems were in my hard drive, the computer encountered a slight difficulty because I had enabled the master boot security, once I disabled it everything was perfect. When I use the mouse thumb wheel to scroll down to see the entire list of buttons to the left on the boinc manager, it doesn't seem to work for me with 6.10.58 but it works perfectly on 6.10.59 For me it was Ubuntu 11 that finally worked with the flash drive, but only as a live image (from which the dual OS installation was easily done). There was more than one version available, I think there was a live86 image available, as well as a 64bit version, and a through-the-net installation. Wait, one more I think, but I just can't remember... maybe some kind of a laptop (non-desktop) version? So I just tried the standard live-x86 image. ![]() |
