Malware detected in a work unit??

Hi all

Anyone seen this, malware within a work unit.

This is what avg showed:

"04/04/2011, 05:13:14";"NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM";"IDP";"Process WCG_HCMD2_MAXDO_GRAPHICS_6.40_WINDOWS_INTELX86 was detected."

I kind of doubt it is actual malware, but just in case can someone check.

Cheers from Scotland.

Re: Malware detected in a work unit??

Impossible, definitely a false positive.

P.S. AVG is known to produce loads of false positives while letting REAL viruses/malware/etc. silp through its filters.

P.S.2 "WCG_HCMD2_MAXDO_GRAPHICS_6.40_WINDOWS_INTELX86" is the graphical application of HCMD2 (i.e. runs when you click "Show Graphics"), not a work unit file.

Re: Malware detected in a work unit??

I have gotten this exact same warning also with AVG Free 2011.

I have never had an issue with AVG in the past so this one made me wonder. but why are we getting this now?

I've been crunching almost a year and have been using AVG thi whole time.

On Virustotal http://www.virustotal.com/
you can chceck what all AV companies think about a sample.
Sample ist scanned by on demand scanner of all AV engines and results are returned, you can also search results by SHA1.
But this was/is surely False positive.

Re: Malware detected in a work unit??

I had same problems with Kaspersky antivirus. I really hate this program...

Now I'm running on the Avast! antivirus and everything is OK.

You can go into your settings to ignore boinc all together. I did this with MSE and stopped getting false positives.
