When will the FightAIDS @ Home project finish?

Just my guess, but I think this project might finish in about one year and four months from now. Putting it at July 2012.

Anyone else with a guess, care to give it a shot?

I'll guess August 6, 2012.

Are you sure a definite cure will be found at that exact date?

This is an open-ended project, which will only be finished when a cure is really found, or when the researchers believe it's time to move on to a new project...

Where did that come from? The subject of this thread is not abaout when will a cure be found. We are guessing when the project will end.

confused Re: When will the FightAIDS @ Home project finish?

Hello Nevada_Bob,

There is not yet a definite answer to that question. The duration of the FightAIDS@Home project depends on many different variables, such as:

How many new experiments can we design against HIV that are worthy of World Community Grid resources? (short answer = many more)

Will the NIH continue to fund our collaborative HIV research? (short answer = We certainly hope so, but the NIH budget has been constantly under attack since ~ 2000.)

When will we or other scientists discover new drugs that are able to work effectively and safely against all of the multi-drug-resistant mutant "superbugs" of HIV that currently exist or that will ever evolve? (short answer = We have no idea. We'll keep working on it until it is no longer a global health problem.)

Thank you for your support,
Alex L. Perryman, Ph.D.

Re: When will the FightAIDS @ Home project finish?

According to recent charts there are 472 days of tasks left...

keep in mind this is a rough estimate, and if new experiments are added this number could change drastically
