angry "work" profile stuck on Standard settings [RESOLVED]

I have changed my custom settings for this profile numerous times, yet whenever I access it, I always have the Standard settings radio button checked, instead of the Custom settings being checked and expanded.

I tried finding an answer in this forum's FAQ and even did a search, but as you can imagine, didn't find anything to explain or help solve this issue.

Any idea why this is happening? I have even deleted and re-created the profile, but it's still the same.

If there's any more information I should provide, just let me know. Thanks!

Re: "work" profile stuck on Standard settings

I think there is a special case for the Work profile,
https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/devi...onfiguration.do?name=work

Standard Settings: Set my profile to the standard settings
Minimum Impact: Set my profile so that it will have a minimal amount of impact on my computer
Maximum Output: Set my profile so that it will do the maximum amount of research possible on my computer
Power Saving: Set my profile so that my computer's power settings can take effect
Custom Profile: I will customize my profile using the advanced options and settings, and specify the science projects to run on the associated devices.

To change when tasks run and how much resources are used you must choose from one of 4 settings when setting up the Work profile:
Standard Settings
Minimum Impact
Maximum Output
Power Saving

When you customize the profile manually this will change some additional things, but you still have to belong to one of the above 4 (power) profiles, so it will default back to the one previously selected, rather than Custom Profile.
The settings you change should still apply, and when you click on Custom Profile you should see any changes you made earlier.

Re: "work" profile stuck on Standard settings

Hi skgiven. I'm not sure I understood everything from your post, but something strange (but good) happened this morning: two of my profiles (including the troublesome "work" profile) appeared to have been deleted. So I re-created them and everything seems to be working just fine now.

Maybe I'm paranoid, but I feel some "higher force" intervened here (like an admin or someone from support) and gave me a hand.

Either way, problem fixed and now processing units like there's no tomorrow!

Thanks for your reply and to any mysterious force that helped out. wink

Cheers! smile

Re: "work" profile stuck on Standard settings

Same here.

When I save my "default" profile with "custom" settings so that it will run the clean energy project, the next time I check the profile it is at "standard" settings again.

Any help will be appreciated.

Re: "work" profile stuck on Standard settings

I don't know if it is the case, but...

For any Boinc client running according website configurations, it need never be changed to run in any of its local preferences (inside the agent ther are config options to do it locally...).

So, if for any reason it was changed in the past, just goes to Advanced option in the menu bar, choose Preferences, and press the CLEAR button that appear at right up side, and press OK.

It will determine that the Boinc agent will run under website configurations (your Device profiles preferences).

Hope that it could help. Good luck ! good luck

Re: "work" profile stuck on Standard settings

Thanks for the answer.

Somehow, things got better and now the client run the clean energy
project tasks.

The profile in the website still says its on default even though each time
I go to custom because it required by the specific project to change some
option there on their guidelines.

Anyway, it's started to work. Don't know why :)

Re: "work" profile stuck on Standard settings

Hi joral. I had no idea that my post was still ongoing. I guess I should've kept it on "Watch".

It happened to me again that the work profile was stuck on Standard, although it was processing according to my custom settings.

The solution I found (or workaround) if you like is (rather) simple: delete the profile and recreate/customize it again. But just as a personal note, although your current profile shows "Standard" it will actually process according to your personal settings. I guess it just doesn't display correctly on the website.

Hope that helps.

Cheers!

Re: "work" profile stuck on Standard settings

CandymanWCG,

It's by design that the preset name reappears in a device profile location. Only when any of the *preset* relevant options are changed will the ''Custom'' radio-button stick. There's a FAQ in the Start Here forum, listing out which options don't change the preset name showing... not one of them of course is selecting the sciences. See the italic text somewhat below the table for explanation.
